Going into the off-season for the Jets, the biggest talks have been about keeping Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson long-term with the team. Early in the off-season, there were rumors of Garrett Wilson wanting to leave New York for a playoff team. This was due to the team’s disappointing season, even with a Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It was Wilson’s dream to go to the playoffs with the Jets after his outstanding rookie year, where he won Offensive Rookie of the Year. It seemed that if Rodgers had stayed, Wilson would have left. However, when Aaron Glenn became the head coach, he didn’t want to deal with the drama of Rodgers in the locker room, so they went in a different direction at quarterback. After that, the Jets signed Wilson’s college quarterback, Justin Fields, and that automatically made him interested in playing. They have been dominating in training camp, just like in college. Therefore, keeping Wilson in New York should be their number one priority this off-season.

Going on the defensive side, there have been multiple talks of keeping Sauce Gardner on the team long-term. In his first two years, he earned 1st Team All-Pro, becoming the first cornerback since the AFL/NFL merger to be selected as an AP First-Team All-Pro in each of his first two seasons. He just came off a slightly down year, but compared to other cornerbacks last season, he performed just as well as almost all of them. It just wasn’t up to his own standards. He’s added a lot of muscle this off-season, trying to improve his tackling after struggling last season with tackling. With new Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, a former cornerback for the New York Jets, he can easily turn back to his old self and become a top 3 cornerback. He has shown nothing but loyalty and love for the New York Jets. Given his love and loyalty, he could become the highest-paid cornerback in the league, earning slightly more than $30 million after Derek Stingley Jr.’s extension this off-season.

Ever since joining the team, Aaron Glenn has changed the team’s culture a lot. They never got anything going with Saleh as head coach, and there was constant drama inside and outside the locker room. Aaron Glenn is a tough head coach and isn’t afraid to point things out. Glenn was with the Jets when Bill Parcells-one of the toughest, most disciplined, and most motivating coaches ever-was there, which explains where Glenn gets his toughness. He was even part of the team when they fell short of their Super Bowl hopes, losing to the Broncos in the AFC championship. Glenn hasn’t forgotten that day and has made it his mission to bring the team that drafted him to a Super Bowl.

With the season around the corner, contract extensions for Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner should happen soon. Right now, it looks like Sauce Gardner will get an extension first, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Garrett Wilson gets a deal done soon too. Once these two young stars get their extension, it’s going to be a great season because they’re both starting to enter their prime. Let’s go, Jets!
