A Love Letter to the Most Unhinged, Sleep-Depriving, Soul-Snatching Postseason in American Sports

Alright NBA fans. NFL lifers. MLB traditionalists who still think bunting is sexy.

I need you to sit down.

Because if you’ve never watched — or better yet, stepped inside a building for — an National Hockey League playoff game… you haven’t experienced postseason sports.

You’ve experienced appetizers.

The NHL Playoffs? That’s the 72-ounce steak challenge where they don’t tell you the cow is still alive.

Let me explain this in a language every sports fan understands.

🏀 NBA Fans: “We Have Stars!”

Yes. You do.

You have superstars. You have load management. You have 124–118 games in March where nobody plays defense until the last five minutes. And in the playoffs? It tightens up.

But here’s the difference.

In the National Basketball Association playoffs, the better team usually wins. The superstar usually carries. A seven-game series often becomes:

“Can you stop this dude?”
Answer: No.
Series over.

In hockey? Your superstar can get rocked into the boards in Game 1 and suddenly your third-line winger named Lars-from-somewhere-you-can’t-pronounce is scoring the biggest goal of the season.

There is no clock-dribbling.
There is no “give it to the best guy and clear out.”

There is only chaos.

And overtime? There is no “first to score 7.”
It’s sudden death.

You blink. It’s over.
You sneeze. Season gone.
You go to the bathroom? Congratulations — your team lost.

NBA overtime is dramatic.
NHL overtime is cardiac arrest.

🏈 NFL Fans: “Single Elimination Is King!”

Yes. The National Football League playoffs are high-stakes. One game. Win or go home.

That’s intense.

But here’s the twist — football players hit hard for 60 minutes.

Hockey players hit hard… for 60 minutes… on ice… at 20 miles per hour… with knives attached to their feet… while tracking a rubber missile.

Then they do it again.

And again.

And again.

Four rounds.
Best of seven.
Every round.

That’s potentially 28 games of full-contact, body-checking, boards-rattling madness.

You ever see an NFL player block a shot with his ankle?
In hockey they call that “Tuesday.”

You ever see an NFL game go into triple overtime?
In the NHL playoffs? That’s called “Game 3.”

⚾ MLB Fans: “162 Games Builds Toughness.”

I respect it.

The Major League Baseball regular season is a marathon. The playoffs? Tight. Strategic. Beautiful.

But here’s the thing:

In baseball, the pitcher can dominate the game.

In hockey? Your goalie can be prime superhero one night… and give up a soft goal off someone’s kneecap the next.

There is no rhythm.
There is no comfort.
There is only stress.

And unlike baseball — where managers can manage matchups like chess — hockey is more like checkers played during a bar fight.

Line changes in 30 seconds.
Bodies flying.
Pucks bouncing off stanchions like they were designed by NASA to ruin your life.

The Hardest Championship Run in Sports?

Yes. I’m saying it.

Winning the Stanley Cup might be the hardest championship climb in American sports.

Why?

Because you don’t just need:

  • Skill
  • Coaching
  • Depth
  • Goaltending
  • Health

You need survival.

By the Conference Finals, everyone is injured.

Nobody tells you how injured.

But they’re all injured.

Torn ligaments. Broken fingers. Separated shoulders.

And they just… keep skating.

You win four rounds in that environment?
That’s not just talent. That’s warfare.

The salary cap squeezes teams.

The playoff grind breaks bodies.

The randomness humbles stars.

Look at how hard it is to repeat in the modern NHL compared to the NBA or NFL.

The NBA? A superstar core can dominate for years.
The NFL? An elite quarterback can extend your window.

In hockey? Your goalie has one bad series and your dynasty dreams evaporate.

One hot opponent goalie can steal your season.
One bounce. One deflection. One weird-angle shot.

Season over.

If you’ve never been inside an NHL playoff arena, let me describe it:

It’s not loud.

It’s volcanic.

It’s 18,000 people who haven’t blinked in 12 minutes because they’re afraid of missing a shot.

It’s grown adults hugging strangers.

It’s sudden silence when the puck hits the post.

It’s the sound of the boards shaking like an earthquake.

It’s overtime where the entire building holds its breath at the same time.

You don’t watch NHL playoff hockey.

You endure it.

NBA fans love greatness.

NFL fans love violence.

MLB fans love tradition.

The NHL playoffs combine all three… then light it on fire.

If you’ve never given it a chance because “I can’t follow the puck” — that’s fine.

By Game 3 of a series, you won’t need to.

You’ll be screaming at your TV like you’ve been watching your whole life.

And when your team scores an overtime winner?

You won’t celebrate.

You’ll collapse.

Because the NHL playoffs don’t entertain you.

They take something from you.

And that’s exactly why they’re the best.

My name is Errol Marks and I’d like to tell you why I believe I can be a major asset to your station. I’m from a small town in Long Island, NY and from a very young age I’ve always had a love for sports talk radio. Growing up, I would listen religiously to shows like Mike and the Mad Dog, Mike and Mike, and Imus in the Morning and studied what made those shows so great. I’ve made it my goal to be as influential as the hosts I grew up listening to, and with my knowledge of all major sports, enthusiastic and fearless personality, and my preparation skills, I know I can get to that level. This is an art and a medium that I’m passionate about and one that I feel can never be replaced.

What makes my story so unique goes beyond my 10+ years of experience in sports media. In addition to over ten years of creating and hosting sports talk radio shows, I created the World Wide Sports Radio Network - one of the first ever digital sports radio networks - in 2012. Since the network began, we have had some of the best content in digital sports media. We have six quality shows on our network covering all sports and sports betting. I’m currently hosting New York’s Sports Loud Mouth, and you can find that show and the rest of our great shows at https://worldwidesportsradio.com/.

Our network’s content and listenership has grown significantly year to year and, in the past year, we’ve achieved 3.6 million minutes listened on our audio stream, over 29k followers on tik tok, 500k viewed on YouTube, 1.7 million downloads on Apple Podcasts, and 906,917 plays on Spotify. While we are enjoying a continued increase in growth, I feel that we can take this to a new level and a new audience with your help.

My goal since the day I started is to become the greatest and most recognizable sports radio show host in the country. I can guarantee that nobody in this industry currently has my passion, personality or ability to shape the future of sports broadcasting and entertainment like I do. If given the opportunity, I hope to further share my story and many talents with you and your station.
