World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) took the term spring cleaning to a whole new level, as on the 15th of April. They have released over 19 Employees such as superstars, backstage producers and writers. The event being called black Wednesday by fans has been a long time coming for WWE. Over the course of the last few years the company has been so called “stock piling” all lot of the top wrestling talent across the globe as well as keeping whoever they can from leaving to go work for the competition such as All Elite Wrestling.
But just a day after the company was deemed an essential business for the state of Florida the company said in their annual conference call “their will be a significant cut of personal moving forward.” For the Fans at home this was something no one thought would happen on this scale. The past 3 years WWE has made it a priority to clean out the underutilized talent around this time every year. But never on a scale this big as name have been coming out after every show the company runs.
This is somewhat understandable for the company as every major sports company is getting hit very hard with everything that is going on. Including the XFL another venture by WWE owner Vince McMahon had to file for bankruptcy after they canceled the remainder of the season due to COVID-19. There has been no reason given on why all of these cuts are happening but most fans have said that it is due to the coronavirus limiting what the WWE can do as they have been running shows from their training facility for over a month and they have lost a lot of money doing so.
