Jets fans… gather round. Bring your coffee, your rage, and maybe a helmet — because this ride’s about to get chaotic.
So let’s break this down in plain English with Errol Marks energy:
Aaron Glenn is hired as head coach. He’s ready to build his staff. He’s about to bring in Don Martindale — aka Wink, aka Blitz-From-The-Parking-Lot — for a second meeting. And in NFL interview speak, that’s basically “You’re in the elevator; where’s your office?”
Then… boom. Enter Woody Johnson — cigar in mouth, clipboard in hand — like he’s the defensive coordinator and the boss of the cheerleaders.
“Hey Aaron… I’m paying you $12 million. So I expect you to call the plays.”
Wait, what?
You pay a coach a dozen million dollars to hire his guys — and then you turn around and micromanage him like you’re choosing toppings at a pizza bar?
That’s not leadership. That’s fantasy football energy.
Usually, paying a coach that kind of money means:
- You trust his vision.
- You give him autonomy.
- You take the headset off your hands.
But in Jets land, $12 million buys:
- A coach
- A headset
- And an owner who still thinks he’s coaching in Madden with the settings on “Hard” while everyone else is playing real life.

Let’s talk facts, not feelings. Since Woody took over the Jets in 2000, his teams’ winning percentage is around .430 — more losses than wins across 25 years.
Only six total playoff appearances.
And zero since 2010.
That’s not a “rebuild.” That’s a franchise stuck in the mud, spinning its wheels.
Let’s roast some ownership records while we’re at it — because if Woody’s getting critiques, we’ve got other owners who deserve the spotlight too:
📉 Jimmy Haslam – Cleveland Browns (since 2012)
- Roughly .362 winning percentage — yes, worse than Woody. That’s almost like flipping a coin where “loss” is twice as likely.
📉 David Tepper – Carolina Panthers (since 2018)
- Around .305 winning percentage — one of the lowest in the entire league. That’s not a rebuild; that’s a free fall.
📉 Shahid Khan – Jacksonville Jaguars (since 2012)
- About .259 win percentage — yeah, you read that right. Khan’s teams lose more than twice as often as they win.
So here’s the deal: Woody’s not the absolute worst in pure numbers — but his Jets have become the longest-running “What if?” in NFL history.

And remember, this is the league where stability and consistency matter. The Patriots aren’t a dynasty because their owners love chaos. They’re consistent. They let coaches coach.
Wyoming snowbanks have more structure than Gang Green.
Now fast forward to this offseason: Seven coaches around the NFL got shown the door after one year.
Free agents are watching this, especially veteran quarterbacks.
And here’s the scary part they don’t want to admit:
If you’re a QB — especially a big-name QB — you want:
✔️ Stability
✔️ A system
✔️ A coach empowered to make decisions
Not an owner who wants a seat at every offensive meeting like he’s Jeff Bezos redesigning your garage.
If free agents are scanning headlines and see “Owner wants to call plays” like a Twitter troll with a headset — that’s not confidence-inspiring.
Let’s be honest:
If Glenn — or any coach — can’t hire his own defensive coordinator, what exactly is he? A head coach? A fancy intern? A Starbucks barista with a playbook?
You bring in someone like Wink — a defensive identity, a personality, a plan — and then you yank the reins?
That’s not coaching. That’s like adopting a dog and saying, “Great, but the cat still runs the house.”
And if Glenn is already handcuffed before Week 1… welcome to Week 17 heartbreak.
You better believe it.
Free agent quarterbacks have group chats.
They compare notes.
One texts:
“Yo… you see Woody told Glenn to call plays? Bro thinks he’s Sean Payton.”
No QB wants to be the next Jet ghost story. That franchise has had more impersonators than a bad YouTube vlog.
Here’s the brutal truth — and I say this with love for Jets fans:
The Jets don’t have a talent problem.
They don’t even fully have a coaching problem.
They have a control problem.
You can’t keep firing coaches like they’re on trial and still expect vision.
This isn’t building.
This is chaos engineered by committee.
Let’s recap:
- Jets owner wants to call plays. ✖️
- Jets have a losing culture. ✖️
- Jets have had fewer playoff appearances than moments without internal drama. ✖️
- Jets scare free agent QBs — absolutely. ✔️
When your owner wants to coach from the owner’s box — and instructs the coach what to do — you’re not building a team.
You’re hosting a reality TV show where the main character thinks he’s the director.
So if this offseason ends with:
- Another confused QB
- Another mixed signals approach
- Another “it’s a process” press tour
Don’t be shocked.
Because when the owner wants to call the plays…
Everyone else ends up paying the price.
