(NBA MVP Award)
For a few years, I have questioned the legitimacy of the MVP award as to the meaning of the award in its entirety. Is the MVP supposed to be the Most Valuable Player to their team in the league, or should it just be the best player in the league?

Who would you define as valuable? Is Steph Curry valuable? How about Jalen Green or Fred VanVleet? All I’m saying is those players above carry their teams and when they are unavailable it is evident.

Are the Denver Nuggets at the same level without Nikola Jokic? I would say yes because their team is built to not rely on any singular player so in terms of value, Jokic is not up there with other players.

Is he a good player? He’s one of the best in the NBA but that doesn’t justify the “valuable” tag. For this reason, the NBA needs to implement a new award recognizing the best players in the league, and one actually recognizing a player’s importance to their team regardless of how bad the team may be.

(Steph Curry, Luka Doncic, and Tyrese Maxey)
Take this into consideration, Luka Doncic was the scoring leader this season, top 10 in steals per game, and second in assists. Key areas to define who the best player in the league is. Jokic does beat him in the rebounds department, but it is expected that a seven-foot-tall Center out rebounds a 6-foot 7-inch guard, and even so, he still averaged more than nine per game.

I am in no way saying Luka Doncic should have won the MVP award, but it shows how valuable he was to the way the team ticks. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Joel Embiid, Luka, and Jalen Brunson have shown that they are some of the most valuable players in the league due to the output of their teams.

That is how the MVP should be decided. If we are talking just about the best player in the league, then an award like the “Kobe Bryant Player of the Season award” could be something to look into. Chop chop Adam Silver.

Well, I am 18 years old currently undergoing my Bachelors of Science in Media and communications. I'm currently in my first semester and I would like to be a sports analyst in the future. I am also from Jamaica. I would like to work at one of the biggest sports companies in the world (ESPN/SKY/BT) but everyone needs a start and I would love it if you were to give me that start.
