Ladies and gentlemen, college football has officially lost its mind.
We have reached the point where you can get drafted by an NFL team, put on an NFL uniform, get cut by that NFL team… and your next phone call might be:
“Congratulations! You’re going back to college!”
WHAT?!
Forget the transfer portal.
Forget NIL.
Forget recruiting rankings.
We need to start calling this College Football: The Reboot.
And right in the middle of this beautiful disaster is LSU head coach Lane Kiffin, who basically looked at the situation and said:
“Wait a minute… the NFL is cutting proven players? SEND THEM TO BATON ROUGE!”
Lane Kiffin isn’t recruiting freshmen anymore.
He’s recruiting guys who have already had a LinkedIn profile!
“Hey Coach, I’m a senior.”
“Senior? AGAIN? GET IN HERE!”
This is unbelievable.
Dae’Quan Wright played four years of college football, went to the NFL, signed with the Cleveland Browns, put on an NFL uniform, and now LSU wants him back.
That’s not a transfer.
THAT’S A RETURN TO THE SCENE OF THE CRIME!
Imagine telling your mother:
“Mom, I made it to the NFL!”
Two weeks later:
“Mom… I’m going back to college.”
Your mother would be standing in the kitchen like:
“DID YOU FAIL THE NFL?”
And Lane Kiffin’s answer is basically:
“Everybody’s doing it!”
That’s Kiffin’s defense.
He says, essentially, if these guys are legally allowed to play, somebody is going to recruit them.
And you know what?
That’s where this gets absolutely hilarious.
Because college football coaches are basically operating under the new rule:
“If the judge says he’s eligible, RUN THE CARD!”
LSU already has former Ole Miss defensive lineman Zxavian Harris coming to Baton Rouge.
Former Notre Dame defensive end Junior Tuihalamaka is coming.
Dae’Quan Wright is potentially coming.
At this point, LSU isn’t building a roster.
THEY’RE BUILDING A COLLEGE FOOTBALL RETIREMENT COMMUNITY!
You walk into LSU’s locker room and somebody’s going to ask:
“What’s your major?”
“Contract negotiations.”
“What’s your class schedule?”
“NFL Film Study 101.”
“Who’s your advisor?”
“My agent.”
This is nuts!
And I love the hypocrisy surrounding college football because everybody has been screaming for players to have more rights.
Players can transfer.
Players can make money.
Players can protect their interests.
Players can challenge the NCAA.
But now that players are actually using those rights in a way that benefits THEM?
Everybody suddenly wants to call the cops!
The SEC basically came out and said players who leave college athletics and sign professional contracts shouldn’t be allowed to come back.
Well, here’s the problem:
THE PLAYERS DIDN’T WRITE THE RULES!
A Louisiana judge granted these guys another year of eligibility because of the NCAA’s eligibility changes.
So what exactly is Lane Kiffin supposed to do?
Walk into the LSU football office and say:
“Guys, I know we can recruit this proven player, but let’s be nice and let Alabama have him.”
PLEASE!
This is college football!
If there’s a loophole, these coaches aren’t walking around it.
THEY’RE DRIVING A BUS THROUGH IT!
And Lane Kiffin basically said his job is to LSU and the people who hired him.
That’s the most Lane Kiffin sentence ever.
He basically said:
“I’m not the commissioner. I’m the LSU coach. My job is to win football games. If the rulebook says I can recruit the guy, I’M RECRUITING THE GUY!”
And let’s be honest.
If another SEC school was doing this to LSU, do you think Lane Kiffin would be sitting there saying:
“I’m very disappointed in their decision, but I respect their competitive integrity.”
HELL NO!
He’d be on social media before the press conference ended!
And that’s why this story is so fascinating.
Because we’re watching college football become something we’ve never seen before.
The NFL used to be the destination.
Now, apparently, college is the layover!
You get cut by the Browns?
Don’t worry!
LSU HAS YOUR BACK!
You didn’t make the Saints?
BATON ROUGE!
You got released from the NFL?
WELCOME BACK, BIG MAN!
At this point, NFL general managers are going to have to think twice before cutting somebody.
Because the next question isn’t:
“Who’s going to claim him?”
It’s:
“IS LANE KIFFIN ON LINE TWO?”
And that’s the part that makes this whole thing hilarious.
Lane Kiffin isn’t apologizing.
He’s not backing down.
He’s basically saying:
“If they’re eligible, they’re available.”
And whether you love it or hate it, college football better get used to it.
Because the NCAA created this eligibility mess, the courts are now involved, the players are taking advantage of the opportunity, and coaches are doing what coaches do:
TRYING TO WIN.
So congratulations, college football.
We’ve officially entered the era where a player can go from:
COLLEGE → NFL → CUT → TRANSFER PORTAL → COLLEGE AGAIN.
At this rate, the next LSU recruiting pitch is going to be:
“Come to LSU. We offer great facilities, great food, championship football… AND IF THE NFL DOESN’T WORK OUT, YOU CAN JUST COME BACK NEXT SEMESTER!”
WELCOME TO 2026, PEOPLE.
WHERE YOUR COLLEGE CAREER CAN HAVE A SEQUEL, A REBOOT, AND A DIRECTOR’S CUT!
And Lane Kiffin?
He’s not running a college football program anymore.
