USA heads to the championship game in the World Baseball Classic knocking off the Dominican Republic in a game that had everything — drama, tension, questionable umpiring, and one throw from Aaron Judge that might still be traveling somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean.

But the real question baseball fans are asking today is simple:

Was that last strike actually a strike… or did the umpire just want to go home and beat the traffic?

Either way, Team USA is moving on, and somehow this roller coaster of a tournament has turned into something nobody expected.

A redemption story.

Or as I like to call it…

The Redeem Team of baseball.

A Game That Felt Like October… With More Stress

The matchup between the United States and the Dominican Republic felt less like a WBC game and more like Game 7 of the World Series played inside a pressure cooker.

The Dominicans struck first with a solo homer to go up 1–0, and for a minute it looked like the lineup filled with stars like Fernando Tatis Jr., Juan Soto, and Julio Rodríguez might start launching baseballs into orbit.

When the Dominican lineup gets hot, baseballs usually disappear faster than pizza at a Little League team party.

But the American pitching staff had other plans.

They basically told the Dominican lineup:

“You guys can look… but tonight you’re not touching anything.”

Then came the fourth inning.

Team USA suddenly woke up like someone dumped cold Gatorade on them.

Two quick runs later and just like that the United States had a 2–1 lead.

And in a game where both pitching staffs were dealing?

Two runs felt like twenty-five and a coupon for free nachos.

Now let’s talk about the moment that flipped the entire game.

A ball gets hit to right field and Fernando Tatis Jr. decides he’s going to try for third.

Now I respect confidence.

But running on Aaron Judge is like trying to steal a steak from a lion.

Technically possible.

But incredibly stupid.

Judge scoops the ball and unleashes an absolute missile to third base.

Not a throw.

Not even a laser.

That ball was a guided missile with anger issues.

Tatis was out by so much that even the third base coach looked like he wanted to file a missing persons report.

Somewhere in baseball headquarters they probably updated the rule book to say:

“Rule #1: Don’t run on Judge.
Rule #2: Seriously… don’t run on Judge.”

Then came the ninth inning.

Runner on third.

Two outs.

Full drama mode activated.

The pitcher fires.

The batter watches.

The umpire rings him up.

Strike three. Game over.

And instantly the baseball world exploded.

Dominican fans screamed “BALL!”

American fans screamed “STRIKE!”

Neutral fans screamed “WHERE’S THE REPLAY?!”

The pitch looked… let’s call it “strike-adjacent.”

Meaning it was close enough that if you squinted, tilted your head, and believed really hard, maybe it clipped the zone.

But baseball has always had one rule that drives fans crazy:

The umpire’s word is final.

And this time the final word sent the Dominican Republic home.

From Nightmare to the Redeem Team

Now here’s the funny part.

Earlier in the tournament Team USA lost to…

Italy.

Yes.

Italy.

The same country famous for pasta, Ferraris, and yelling “Mamma Mia!” in dramatic situations.

For about 48 hours it looked like Team USA might be the Nightmare Team, not the Dream Team.

Fans were panicking.

Sports talk radio was melting down.

And somewhere in New York a guy named Vinny was screaming:

“HOW DO YOU LOSE TO ITALY IN BASEBALL?!”

But the Americans bounced back.

They beat Canada.

Then they knocked off the Dominican Republic.

Suddenly this team doesn’t look like a disaster anymore.

Now they look like a team on a mission.

The Redeem Team.

Because nothing erases embarrassment faster than beating a baseball superpower.

Meanwhile… Venezuela Sends Japan Packing

Over on the other side of the bracket another baseball earthquake happened.

Venezuela knocked off Japan 8–5.

Yes, Japan — the defending champions and baseball’s version of a perfectly tuned sports car.

The game flipped when Wilyer Abreu crushed a huge three-run homer that changed the entire momentum of the game.

Stars like Ronald Acuña Jr. helped lead the comeback while the Venezuelan bullpen shut the door late.

Even the magic of Shohei Ohtani couldn’t save Japan this time.

Which tells you how crazy this tournament has been.

Japan losing in the WBC is like the Harlem Globetrotters losing to the Washington Generals.

It’s rare.

Very rare.

Now Team USA waits to see who they face in the championship.

The next matchup?

Italy vs Venezuela.

And it’s a fascinating contrast.

Italy is the Cinderella story.

Venezuela is the team playing like they just drank three Red Bulls and decided to fight everybody.

One team is shocking the world.

The other looks like they might try to hit baseballs into another zip code.

Does Team USA Want Italy Again?

Let’s be honest here.

If you’re Team USA…

You probably want Italy again.

Why?

Because revenge tastes better than stadium nachos.

That early loss still sits in the locker room like leftover meatloaf nobody wants to talk about.

And if the United States gets another shot at Italy in the championship?

That’s the perfect redemption story.

Lose early.

Meet again at the end.

Win the whole thing.

Roll credits.

This World Baseball Classic has officially gone completely off the rails.

Italy beating the United States.

Venezuela knocking off Japan.

The Dominican Republic losing on a pitch that may or may not have needed GPS coordinates.

And Aaron Judge throwing baseballs like he’s auditioning to join the Avengers.

Now Team USA waits.

Italy.

Or Venezuela.

Either way…

The championship game is going to be absolute chaos.

And if the United States wins the whole thing?

Forget the Dream Team.

Forget the Avengers.

Call them what they really are.

The Redeem Team of baseball. ⚾ 🔥

My name is Errol Marks and I’d like to tell you why I believe I can be a major asset to your station. I’m from a small town in Long Island, NY and from a very young age I’ve always had a love for sports talk radio. Growing up, I would listen religiously to shows like Mike and the Mad Dog, Mike and Mike, and Imus in the Morning and studied what made those shows so great. I’ve made it my goal to be as influential as the hosts I grew up listening to, and with my knowledge of all major sports, enthusiastic and fearless personality, and my preparation skills, I know I can get to that level. This is an art and a medium that I’m passionate about and one that I feel can never be replaced.

What makes my story so unique goes beyond my 10+ years of experience in sports media. In addition to over ten years of creating and hosting sports talk radio shows, I created the World Wide Sports Radio Network - one of the first ever digital sports radio networks - in 2012. Since the network began, we have had some of the best content in digital sports media. We have six quality shows on our network covering all sports and sports betting. I’m currently hosting New York’s Sports Loud Mouth, and you can find that show and the rest of our great shows at https://worldwidesportsradio.com/.

Our network’s content and listenership has grown significantly year to year and, in the past year, we’ve achieved 3.6 million minutes listened on our audio stream, over 29k followers on tik tok, 500k viewed on YouTube, 1.7 million downloads on Apple Podcasts, and 906,917 plays on Spotify. While we are enjoying a continued increase in growth, I feel that we can take this to a new level and a new audience with your help.

My goal since the day I started is to become the greatest and most recognizable sports radio show host in the country. I can guarantee that nobody in this industry currently has my passion, personality or ability to shape the future of sports broadcasting and entertainment like I do. If given the opportunity, I hope to further share my story and many talents with you and your station.
