THE POINT GOD DELUSION: WHY PUTTING STEPH IN THE TOP 5 POINT GUARDS IS THE BASKETBALL EQUIVALENT OF PUTTING PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA

Look… I’m starting to think some of you have been taking basketball advice from Stephen A. Smith’s coffee mug, because there is NO WAY—absolutely NO WAY—you’re all seriously putting Steph Curry in the Top 5 Point Guards of All Time without blinking, thinking, or even chewing properly.

This isn’t crazy.
This isn’t absurd.
This isn’t “Errol Marks being overly dramatic again.”
No.
This… is basketball justice.

Let me break this down before someone out there accuses me of hating light-skinned jump shooters from the Bay Area.

Steph is great at many things:

  • Shooting
  • Shooting farther
  • Shooting while falling
  • Shooting while tying his shoe
  • Shooting during the national anthem
  • Shooting in the parking lot

But a POINT GUARD? A floor general? The coach on the court? The guy who controls the game like a mafia boss controls a neighborhood?

Let me introduce you to:

  • Magic Johnson — the man ran the floor like he had Google Maps installed in his brain.
  • Isiah Thomas — the most ferocious 6-foot assassin since someone gave a raccoon caffeine.
  • Oscar Robertson — averaged a triple-double before stat-padding was even invented.
  • John Stockton — the only man who could get 14 assists while looking like an undercover accountant.
  • Chris Paul — the dude has orchestrated more offenses than Beethoven.

These are point guards.
These are commanders.
These are take me to war leaders.

Steph?
Steph is the cute guy who showed up to war holding a bow and arrow with sparkles glued on it—and STILL killed everybody.
But that doesn’t make him Patton.

Just because you changed the game doesn’t mean you’re top 5 in a role you barely play.

Curry changed basketball—YES.
He made every 12-year-old think they’re allowed to pull up from Pluto—YES. He turned spacing into a religion—ABSOLUTELY.

But if changing the game automatically made you an all-time great at a specific position, then we’d have:

  • James Harden as the greatest traveler of all time
  • Westbrook as the Picasso of chaos
  • Ben Simmons as the Houdini of disappearing shots

Being transformative ≠ being top 5.

Stephen A. Smith swears Steph Curry is a top-5 point guard because… feelings.

Every time he talks about Steph, he sounds like he’s narrating a romance novel:

“This BROTHER… this BAD MAN… can shoot from CLEVELAND… WHILE I’M EATING MY CHEESECAKE… HE IS UNDENIABLE!”

Stephen A., I love you…
But please—PLEASE—put the espresso down.
Just because a man can hit a 43-footer doesn’t mean he suddenly leapfrogs the entire history of point guard royalty like he’s playing hopscotch.

Current NBA players say Steph is a top-5 PG because they grew up watching him give them PTSD from the logo.

But players think everything is the “greatest ever.”

These dudes will see a guy dunk once and immediately tweet:

“NOT GONNA LIE… THAT’S THE BEST ATHLETE WE’VE EVER HAD IN THIS GAME.”

Relax.
Take a breath.
Not everyone who hits a 3 is a basketball prophet.

Steph Curry is:

The greatest shooter of all time
A revolutionary offensive weapon
A superstar
A legend
A generational icon

Steph Curry is NOT:
A better point guard than Magic
A better point guard than Isiah
A better point guard than Big O
A better point guard than Stockton
A better point guard than Chris Paul
A traditional floor general
A top 5 POINT GUARD
Top 5 player of his era?
Sure.

Top 10 player all-time? Debate it.

But Top 5 point guard?
No.

And if you say yes, you’re doing it because you’re hypnotized by those adorable trick shots and that little shimmy he does like he’s auditioning for “Dancing With the Stars: Light Skin Edition.”

Steph Curry is a legend.

A superstar.
A basketball alien.
An offensive thermonuclear bomb.

But a Top 5 Point Guard of All Time?

To quote the great philosopher Errol Marks:

“STOP THE NONSENSE.”

My name is Errol Marks and I’d like to tell you why I believe I can be a major asset to your station. I’m from a small town in Long Island, NY and from a very young age I’ve always had a love for sports talk radio. Growing up, I would listen religiously to shows like Mike and the Mad Dog, Mike and Mike, and Imus in the Morning and studied what made those shows so great. I’ve made it my goal to be as influential as the hosts I grew up listening to, and with my knowledge of all major sports, enthusiastic and fearless personality, and my preparation skills, I know I can get to that level. This is an art and a medium that I’m passionate about and one that I feel can never be replaced.

What makes my story so unique goes beyond my 10+ years of experience in sports media. In addition to over ten years of creating and hosting sports talk radio shows, I created the World Wide Sports Radio Network - one of the first ever digital sports radio networks - in 2012. Since the network began, we have had some of the best content in digital sports media. We have six quality shows on our network covering all sports and sports betting. I’m currently hosting New York’s Sports Loud Mouth, and you can find that show and the rest of our great shows at https://worldwidesportsradio.com/.

Our network’s content and listenership has grown significantly year to year and, in the past year, we’ve achieved 3.6 million minutes listened on our audio stream, over 29k followers on tik tok, 500k viewed on YouTube, 1.7 million downloads on Apple Podcasts, and 906,917 plays on Spotify. While we are enjoying a continued increase in growth, I feel that we can take this to a new level and a new audience with your help.

My goal since the day I started is to become the greatest and most recognizable sports radio show host in the country. I can guarantee that nobody in this industry currently has my passion, personality or ability to shape the future of sports broadcasting and entertainment like I do. If given the opportunity, I hope to further share my story and many talents with you and your station.
