Basketball used to be a beautiful game.

You had post moves, mid-range assassins, crafty guards, and big men who actually played like big men. The hardwood was a chess match. It was art. It was elbows, fadeaways, drop steps, and the occasional scuffle that made your grandmother gasp and your uncle spill his beer.

Now?

Half the league looks like they’re playing NBA Jam on turbo mode — sprint up the court and launch a three before the defense even gets its sneakers tied.

Welcome to the modern 3-Point Chuck League.

And yes… I’m blaming part of it on the revolution led by guys like Stephen Curry — even though he might be the greatest shooter the game has ever seen.

But the truth is, the league accidentally created a monster.

When the 3-Point Shot Was Just a Spice… Not the Whole Meal

The three-point shot came to the National Basketball Association in the 1979–80 season.

Back then it wasn’t the entire offense.

It was a surprise punch.

Players like:

  • Larry Bird
  • Reggie Miller
  • Ray Allen

They used the three when the moment called for it.

Teams averaged about 3–5 attempts per game in the early days.

Fast forward to today.

Teams are launching 40+ threes a night like they’re getting paid per brick.

It’s gone from a weapon… to a full-blown addiction.

The Analytics Nerds Broke the Game

Somewhere along the way every NBA team hired a group of math wizards who discovered something groundbreaking:

“Guys… three points is more than two.”

Brilliant discovery.

Next thing you know the entire offensive philosophy became:

  1. Shoot a three
  2. Miss
  3. Shoot another three
  4. Miss again
  5. Shoot another three

Eventually one goes in and the bench celebrates like they just solved world hunger.

Meanwhile the mid-range jumper is treated like it’s illegal contraband.

The Steph Curry Effect

Look, Stephen Curry is unbelievable.

The guy pulls up from 35 feet and it looks effortless.

But every revolution has consequences.

Now every kid in America thinks they’re Steph.

You go to the park and see a 14-year-old launching shots from the parking lot.

Coach screaming:

“Timmy… YOU’RE 5’7 AND SHOOTING 12%!”

Steph didn’t ruin basketball.

But everybody trying to be Steph absolutely did.

The Death of the Big Man

Back in the golden era, giants ruled the paint:

  • Shaquille O’Neal
  • Hakeem Olajuwon
  • Patrick Ewing

These guys had post moves that looked like ballet mixed with a bar fight.

Today?

If a 7-footer posts up, the analytics department starts hyperventilating.

“NO! STEP OUT AND SHOOT A THREE!”

We’ve got centers shooting threes like they’re guards.

At this rate the next evolution will be a 7’3 guy running pick-and-pop from half court.

The NBA’s Next Brilliant Idea: The 4-Point Shot

And let me warn you right now…

This is coming.

The NBA is always trying to make the game more “exciting.”

So eventually someone in the league office is going to say:

“What if we add a 4-point line?”

Picture it:

A line about 30–32 feet from the basket.

Make the shot?

Four points.

Miss?

The ball lands somewhere in the third row next to a guy eating nachos.

The league will sell it like this:

“It adds excitement and creativity.”

Translation:

“We want more viral highlights.”

The Adam Silver Reality

Officially the league is run by commissioner Adam Silver.

But let’s be honest.

The players have a lot more power than ever.

Especially guys like LeBron James.

Sometimes it feels like the NBA should just rename itself:

The LJA — The LeBron James Association

Need a new rule?

Ask the players.

Need a new tournament nobody understands?

Ask the players.

Need a mid-season cup, a play-in tournament, and possibly a 7-point dunk contest?

Don’t worry — the LJA will figure it out.

Why the 3-Point Era Hurts the Game

The real issue is variety is disappearing.

Basketball used to require mastering multiple skills:

  • Post play
  • Footwork
  • Mid-range shooting
  • Passing
  • Defense

Now the offense is often just:

Drive → Kick → Three.

When it works it looks great.

When it doesn’t?

It looks like a construction site with all those bricks.

My Top 10 Thoughts For The LJA!

  1. Watching some NBA games today feels like watching a bunch of guys play HORSE with a $10 million salary.
  2. If Shaquille O’Neal played today, analytics would tell him to shoot 12 threes a game… and the backboard would file a lawsuit.
  3. Half the league shoots so many threes you’d think the rim owed them money.
  4. Some of these offenses look less like basketball and more like a malfunctioning T-shirt cannon.
  5. The mid-range jumper today is treated like it’s banned by the Geneva Convention.
  6. Every team says they’re copying Stephen Curry… but they forgot the part where he actually makes the shots.
  7. If the NBA adds a 4-point shot, players will start warming up from the parking garage.
  8. The next step in analytics is probably telling players to shoot from the team bus because “the numbers like it.”
  9. Back in the day, missing five shots in a row meant you were benched. Today it means you’re “due.”
  10. If Michael Jordan played today, he’d score 50 points — and analysts would complain he didn’t shoot enough threes.

The three-point shot was supposed to add excitement to basketball.

Instead it turned the league into a long-distance shooting contest with sneakers.

And if the NBA keeps chasing highlights and numbers…

Don’t be surprised if the next rule change is a 4-point shot from the logo.

Because in today’s league…

If three points are good…

The NBA will eventually decide four points are sexier. 😆

My name is Errol Marks and I’d like to tell you why I believe I can be a major asset to your station. I’m from a small town in Long Island, NY and from a very young age I’ve always had a love for sports talk radio. Growing up, I would listen religiously to shows like Mike and the Mad Dog, Mike and Mike, and Imus in the Morning and studied what made those shows so great. I’ve made it my goal to be as influential as the hosts I grew up listening to, and with my knowledge of all major sports, enthusiastic and fearless personality, and my preparation skills, I know I can get to that level. This is an art and a medium that I’m passionate about and one that I feel can never be replaced.

What makes my story so unique goes beyond my 10+ years of experience in sports media. In addition to over ten years of creating and hosting sports talk radio shows, I created the World Wide Sports Radio Network - one of the first ever digital sports radio networks - in 2012. Since the network began, we have had some of the best content in digital sports media. We have six quality shows on our network covering all sports and sports betting. I’m currently hosting New York’s Sports Loud Mouth, and you can find that show and the rest of our great shows at https://worldwidesportsradio.com/.

Our network’s content and listenership has grown significantly year to year and, in the past year, we’ve achieved 3.6 million minutes listened on our audio stream, over 29k followers on tik tok, 500k viewed on YouTube, 1.7 million downloads on Apple Podcasts, and 906,917 plays on Spotify. While we are enjoying a continued increase in growth, I feel that we can take this to a new level and a new audience with your help.

My goal since the day I started is to become the greatest and most recognizable sports radio show host in the country. I can guarantee that nobody in this industry currently has my passion, personality or ability to shape the future of sports broadcasting and entertainment like I do. If given the opportunity, I hope to further share my story and many talents with you and your station.
