The New York Mets’ offense right now looks like it’s buffering on dial-up internet. You click… you wait… you hear weird noises… and then nothing loads. That’s basically the Mets through the first stretch of the season — a lot of names, a lot of expectations, and somehow… the baseball is allergic to their bats.
Let’s start with the biggest mystery since socks disappearing in the dryer:
Why are Francisco Lindor, Bo Bichette, and Jorge Polanco barely touching the baseball?
This lineup was supposed to be a fireworks show. Instead, it’s a birthday candle in a wind tunnel.
The “Don’t Touch The Ball” Offense
The Mets built this lineup to grind pitchers down. Instead, they’re helping opposing starters get their steps in and head to the dugout early for a nice relaxing iced coffee.
- Lindor looks like he’s playing hot potato — except he never gets the potato
- Bichette has been swinging like he’s trying not to wake up the neighbors
- Polanco feels like he’s batting with a pool noodle
We’re not asking for 10 runs a game. We’re just asking for contact that requires the infielders to move their feet. That’s it. That’s the bar right now.
Through the early stretch:
- Mets near bottom in team batting average
- Runners left on base piling up like Long Island traffic on the LIE
- Power numbers? Mostly theoretical at this point
- Strikeouts? Oh they got those. Bulk discount.
This lineup was supposed to be Soto–Lindor–Bichette–Polanco chaos.
Instead it’s soft grounder–strikeout–pop up–camera shot of Mendoza blinking.
Juan Soto Leaves Early… Because Of Course He Does
And just when things couldn’t get more Mets-y… Juan Soto exits early with an injury.
You could actually hear Mets fans collectively say:
“Yeah… that tracks.”
Nothing sums up the Mets start better than:
- offense cold
- stars not producing
- Soto hurt
- camera cuts to Mendoza looking like he just remembered he left the oven on
If Soto misses time, this offense goes from “struggling” to missing person report.
Is Carlos Mendoza Already On The Hot Seat?
Look… I’m not saying the seat is hot.
But I am saying someone just plugged it in and turned it to medium-high.
Because right now:
- Lineup construction questionable
- Hitters pressing
- No offensive rhythm
- No urgency
- No adjustments
And Mets fans are starting to do that thing…
You know… where they lean forward… squint… and start saying:
“Is this… a manager problem?”
You don’t fire a manager in April…
…but you absolutely start Googling replacements in April.
Why David Stearns Should Be Sweating Slightly Through His Hoodie
David Stearns came in with the “smart baseball guy” aura.
Spreadsheet energy. Calm. Calculated. Analytical.
But this offseason came with questions:
- Was the roster too dependent on bounce-back hitters?
- Too many similar bats?
- Not enough lineup balance?
- Banking on health? (Always dangerous in Queens)
Right now, none of those bets are paying off.
This lineup feels like it was built in a lab…
but someone forgot to test it against actual pitching.
If this slow start continues:
- Pressure shifts to Mendoza
- Then it shifts to lineup construction
- Then it shifts to Stearns
- Then Mets Twitter turns into a bonfire
The Vibes Are… Not Great
You can tell a lot by body language:
- hitters walking back slow
- dugout quiet
- no energy
- no spark
- no chaos
Good Mets teams feel loud.
This team feels like a library… during finals week… where everyone is failing.
The Bottom Line
It’s early. Yes.
But early Mets problems have a funny way of becoming June Mets problems.
The Mets need:
- Lindor getting on base
- Bichette making hard contact
- Polanco lengthening the lineup
- Soto healthy
- Mendoza pushing the right buttons
Otherwise this “stacked lineup” becomes:
A very expensive collection of warning-track fly balls.
And right now?
The Mets offense isn’t just cold…
It’s frozen.
It’s iced.
It’s in cryogenic sleep.
Someone check the pulse.
And maybe… let Lindor touch the baseball.

What makes my story so unique goes beyond my 10+ years of experience in sports media. In addition to over ten years of creating and hosting sports talk radio shows, I created the World Wide Sports Radio Network - one of the first ever digital sports radio networks - in 2012. Since the network began, we have had some of the best content in digital sports media. We have six quality shows on our network covering all sports and sports betting.
