Ladies and gentlemen, I thought the Lakers were a basketball team.

Apparently, I was wrong.

THE LAKERS ARE NOW A FAMILY DRAMA WITH $12.5 BILLION INVOLVED!

Forget Succession.

Forget The Kardashians.

Forget Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

The Buss family just dropped “Keeping Up With the Lakers” — and somebody forgot to tell Jeanie Buss that the finale was being filmed!

Here’s the situation.

The Buss family still owns 17.8% of the Lakers, and five of Jeanie Buss’ siblings reportedly voted to sell that remaining stake to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger at the same $12.5 billion valuation involved in Mark Walter’s sale.

Sounds simple, right?

NOPE!

Because Jeanie Buss basically walked into the room and said:

“EXCUSE ME… WHO GAVE YOU PEOPLE PERMISSION TO SELL MY TEAM?”

Jeanie is challenging the vote through her attorney, Adam Streisand, arguing that a previous court ruling says the family trust can’t make this kind of move without approval from the co-trustees — including Jeanie.

And here’s where this gets absolutely NUTS.

If this sale happens, Jeanie could lose the ownership percentage she needs to remain the Lakers’ controlling owner.

Think about that for a second.

This woman has spent years representing the Lakers.

Her father, Jerry Buss, bought the team in 1979.

The Buss family turned the Lakers into one of the most iconic franchises in sports.

Eleven championships during their ownership.

Magic Johnson.

Kareem.

Kobe.

Shaq.

Phil Jackson.

And now we’re potentially watching the end of the Buss family’s control of the Lakers because the family got together and basically said:

“Okay, who’s ready to cash out?”

And Jeanie said:

“NOT ME!”

This isn’t a family meeting anymore.

This is Lakers Court!

You can almost hear the siblings sitting around the table:

“Should we sell?”

“Yes.”

Then somebody looks at Jeanie.

And apparently, five siblings voted to sell while Jeanie was the lone sibling who didn’t vote that way.

And now Jeanie’s attorney is basically saying:

“You better stop this transaction right now.”

That’s lawyer language for:

“PUT THE CHECKBOOK DOWN AND BACK AWAY FROM THE LAKERS!”

And then there’s Bob Iger.

The Disney guy.

The Hollywood guy.

The man who has probably spent his entire career dealing with billion-dollar corporate drama.

And now he’s walking into the Lakers thinking:

“I’m buying a basketball team.”

NO, BOB!

YOU’RE BUYING A FAMILY THERAPY SESSION!

Iger reportedly told the California Post that he intended to honor Jeanie’s agreement to remain controlling owner through 2030.

Then he added:

“If something changes, then it changes.”

OH BOY!

That’s the billionaire version of:

“We’ll see what happens.”

That’s the sentence you say when you don’t want to start a fight at the dinner table.

Because Jeanie is saying:

“I’m the controlling owner.”

The family is saying:

“We’re selling.”

Iger is saying:

“We’re honoring the agreement.”

And Mark Walter is somewhere watching this whole thing like:

“I sold the team and somehow I’m still involved in the family reunion!”

And let’s talk about the money.

We’re talking about the Lakers being valued at $12.5 BILLION.

That’s not a sale.

That’s a financial nuclear bomb!

You could sell a lot of things for $12.5 billion.

You could buy islands.

You could buy companies.

You could probably buy enough avocado toast to destroy California’s avocado supply.

We’ve got billions of dollars.

We’ve got Bob Iger.

We’ve got Josh Kushner.

And we’ve got Jeanie Buss standing in the middle saying:

“YOU ARE NOT TAKING MY LAKERS!”

This is no longer basketball.

And the best part?

Nobody knows how the hell this ends.

Does Jeanie remain controlling owner?

Does the court get involved?

Or do we eventually see Jeanie walk into the Lakers’ office, look at everybody and say:

But here’s the real debate for NY’s Sports Loud Mouth:

Should Jeanie Buss fight like hell to keep control of the Lakers — or should she accept the money, let the family sell, and move on?

Because $12.5 billion can make a LOT of family problems disappear.

But losing control of the Lakers?

THAT’S A FAMILY ARGUMENT YOU DON’T SETTLE OVER THANKSGIVING DINNER!
