Let’s be honest for a second.
If Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano actually happens, half the planet is watching… and the other half is pretending they weren’t already planning their snacks.
Because this isn’t just a fight.
This is the “Where have you been for 10 years?” Super Bowl of punch-throwing nostalgia.
And after the recent press conference where Rousey took a flamethrower to fighter pay in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the fight suddenly became something else:
A pay-per-view main event… and a public roast of Dana White.
And somewhere in the background laughing like a YouTube villain who accidentally became the Robin Hood of combat sports…
is Jake Paul.
Yes. That Jake Paul.
Welcome to the weirdest timeline in fight history.
Before Rousey was snapping arms like dry spaghetti and before the UFC discovered women’s MMA actually makes money, Gina Carano was the star.
Carano was the face of women’s fighting when it was still considered a novelty.
Then Rousey showed up like a human armbar tornado and turned women’s MMA into a billion-dollar industry.
Carano had the Hollywood swagger.
Rousey had the “I will break you in 35 seconds” energy.
And for years fans dreamed about this fight like it was Bigfoot riding a unicorn.
But now?
It might actually happen.
And judging by the press conference, Rousey isn’t just trying to win a fight.
She’s trying to start a labor movement with gloves on.

Rousey’s Shots at the UFC Were Not Subtle
During the presser, Rousey basically said what fighters whisper backstage but never scream into microphones:
Fighters in the UFC are underpaid.
Now let’s be clear.
The UFC is worth billions.
But many fighters on undercards are making $12,000 to show and $12,000 to win.
Which sounds like a lot until you remember fighters pay for:
• coaches
• gyms
• nutrition
• travel
• medical
• taxes
By the time the fight is over some guys are basically walking away with enough money to buy a used Honda Civic and maybe a pizza.
Meanwhile the promotion sells the event for $80 a pop.
That math smells funny.
And Rousey knows it.
Ten years ago if you told fight fans that Jake Paul would become the loudest advocate for fighter pay, people would have laughed so hard they’d choke on nachos.
But here we are.
Paul has repeatedly called out Dana White for not paying fighters fairly.
And when Paul runs boxing events, fighters often make significantly more money than comparable MMA bouts.
Which is the craziest twist in sports:
The kid from YouTube is now acting like the union rep of combat sports.
And Dana White probably wakes up every morning hoping Jake Paul’s Wi-Fi goes out permanently.

What This Fight Could Actually Pay
If Rousey vs Carano happens outside the UFC, the money could be enormous.
Let’s compare.
Typical big UFC fights:
- Conor McGregor mega fights: $3M–$5M disclosed
- Championship fights: $500K–$1M base
- Undercard fighters: sometimes under $30K total
But a crossover spectacle like Rousey vs Carano?
That could easily reach $10M+ purses depending on pay-per-view numbers.
Because nostalgia sells.
Drama sells.
And two legendary women punching each other sells like free beer at a tailgate.
Because if fighters see someone leave the UFC and make more money…
suddenly everyone starts asking questions.
Questions like:
“Why am I getting punched for $18K while the boss is buying another Ferrari?”
The UFC built its empire on control.
Exclusive contracts.
Tight pay structures.
No fighter unions.
If stars start leaving and making more elsewhere?
That system cracks.
And that’s exactly what guys like Jake Paul are trying to expose.
Is Jake Paul Actually Saving Combat Sports?
Now let’s slow down before we build a statue.
Jake Paul is still the same guy who once made YouTube videos screaming at furniture.
But he has forced the conversation about fighter pay into the mainstream.
He’s challenged the UFC model publicly.
He’s paid fighters better on some cards.
And he’s loud enough that the MMA world can’t ignore him.
Which means the weirdest sentence in sports today might be this:
Jake Paul might actually be helping fighters.
Somewhere, Dana White just threw a protein shaker through a wall.
If Rousey vs Carano happens, it’s not just a fight.
It’s a symbolic middle finger to the old system.
Two pioneers.
Two icons.
And possibly the first women’s super fight that proves fighters don’t need the UFC machine to make ridiculous money.
Also let’s be honest…
If Gina Carano wins, Hollywood explodes.
If Ronda wins, half the internet says “she’s back.”
And if Jake Paul shows up cageside smiling?
Dana White might ban the building from ever having Wi-Fi again.
Either way…
Fight fans win.
Top 10 Thoughts Of How Cheap The UFC Really Is!
- UFC fighter pay is so low some guys are Uber drivers between rounds.
- A prelim fighter gets hit 200 times and leaves with enough money for two tanks of gas and a Gatorade.
- Dana White talks about loyalty like fighters are knights of the round table… meanwhile the pay looks like medieval wages too.
- Some UFC fighters have three jobs:
fight night, Uber driver, and explaining to their parents why they’re still broke. - Jake Paul paying fighters more than the UFC is like finding out the class clown runs the bank.
- Fighters bleed for the promotion… and the promotion gives them Band-Aids and a Venmo request.
- UFC contracts are so tight they make skinny jeans look comfortable.
- Dana White says fighters can become stars… yeah if they win 12 fights and survive three concussions.
- If UFC pay gets any lower fighters are going to start asking fans to tip after knockouts.
- Somewhere Jake Paul is yelling “Pay fighters!” while Dana White is yelling “Turn off his microphone!”
