For years weâve been sold this Hollywood script that the quarterback is the superhero, the savior, the chosen one. The camera zooms in, slow motion, eye black perfect, inspirational music playing like he just saved Earth from aliens.
But when you actually look at 25 years of Super Bowl data?
Itâs not Marvel.
Itâs a horror movie.
And the villain is the pass rush.
Letâs Start With Cold, Petty, Disrespectful Facts
Since 2000:
- The majority of Super Bowl winners ranked Top 10 in scoring defense.
- Teams that record 3+ sacks in the Super Bowl win at an overwhelming rate.
- Turnover margin in the playoffs correlates stronger with wins than passing yards.
- Defensive pressure rate has a bigger impact on playoff success than QB rating.
Translation?
Your quarterback can throw for 350 yards in Week 9.
But in February, if heâs getting folded like laundry? Itâs over.
