Fiorito; from Yonkers, NY is coaching in his first MLB season with the New York Yankees.
Dan Fiorito, Yonkers native played in the Yankees minor league system from 2013-2016 then coached Yankees minor league affiliates from 2017-2025. Fiorito is currently in his first season coaching at the MLB level as the New York Yankees First Base/Infield/Baserunning coach.
Jordan: You grew up in Yonkers, went to Fordham Prep, and here you are in your first MLB season with the New York Yankees. Talk about what that means to be coaching at the highest-level right near your hometown.
Fiorito: Yeah, it’s a special feeling obviously it’s an incredible organization and truly grateful for the opportunity here to be with the team and just being here there’s a feel for how special the team is the players, the people, the staff here so it’s been a blast so far.

Jordan: Do you have a favorite moment from playing ball at Manhattanville?
Fiorito: We won our conference championship in 2010. So yeah, amazing memories celebrating with the guys and just all the times with them bus rides, the hotels, just the little things especially off the field just connecting with those guys and staying close with them and seeing some of them here at the ballpark on Opening Day was something I cherish a lot.
Jordan: How neat is it that you coached players such as Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells and others in the minors and now, you’re coaching them at the Big League level?
Fiorito: It’s something that I felt very blessed that I’ve seen them come through the minor leagues I’ve had that relationship with them throughout their time in the minor leagues and just watching them develop seeing the impact that they’ve had on our Big League team here is something that I know we’re all proud of just seeing all the work that they’ve put in how much their families have been with them throughout the way it’s so rewarding for all of us but especially for the players and that’s what we’re all here for and to see the impact they’re having right now. Volpe, Wells, Warren, Rice, the names go on of guys who have come through our system and seeing them thrive up here, it’s special.

Jordan: Talk about other than coaching the runners on the basepaths what other responsibilities do you have as a First Base and Infield coach?
Fiorito: Yeah, so do I’ll baserunning and its actually inside of the game positioning of where the infielders are it’s preparing from the baserunning ends. Pitchers, catchers, matchups, that’s the little stuff that goes into it but there’s a lot as far as team defenses, and trying to figure out strengths and weaknesses for other teams we have to guard against what we can try to expose and just trying to find any competitive advantage we can really.
Jordan: Talk about what type of pregame preparation you do with the players prior to the game as a coach.
Fiorito: So, it’s different for every player but each player is going to have their objectives of things they can work on stuff that maybe we have targeted or something the players feel they can improve at come out here on early work and try and get that done and accomplished on the infield end and also preparing on the baserunning side. What kind of pitchers we are going to see, the matchups that we might have out there, who’s a guy that we can run on, who’s somebody that’s going to be a little bit tougher and then just also having fun on the teachable moments that we’ve had from prior games and showing them in meetings and talking about it so we can all improve.

Jordan: Lastly, how are you enjoying you first MLB season coaching the New York Yankees?
Fiorito: It’s been great! I think the team is special like I mentioned earlier I just love being around the people here and I just love coming to the ballpark seeing everybody with the expectation that they have the sense of urgency they have just to come out here and win I think you also learn really quickly the magnitude of each moment in the game and it’s something that I’ve loved, I’ve loved being here so far and just the level of competition is obviously unmatched it’s the Big Leagues and it’s something we all want to be a part of so being here it’s been a lot of fun.
