The NBA All-Star Weekend used to mean something. It used to be competitive. It used to be basketball.

Now? It’s a three-day influencer convention with a basketball in the background.

The NBA All-Star Game has turned into the only sporting event where nobody guards anybody and we’re all supposed to clap because someone scored 187 points. There’s more defense at a family Thanksgiving when somebody reaches for the last piece of turkey.

This thing isn’t a basketball game anymore. It’s a live-action 2K glitch.

Let’s be honest.

When the final score looks like 211–204, that’s not an All-Star Game. That’s a malfunctioning scoreboard. That’s a video game on rookie mode. That’s the Harlem Globetrotters refusing to play defense against themselves.

Back in the day, you had guys like:

  • Michael Jordan
  • Kobe Bryant
  • Kevin Garnett

These dudes competed. Kobe treated the All-Star Game like Game 7 of the Finals. He was trying to take your soul in an exhibition.

Now? Players treat it like a sponsored layup line.

You don’t even have to listen to me. Listen to Charles Barkley.

Barkley has repeatedly said the game is unwatchable, embarrassing, and has zero intensity. He’s called it glorified pickup basketball. And when Charles Barkley — a man who once played in an era where people actually fought over rebounds — is begging for effort, you know we’re in trouble.

Former players across the board have echoed the same thing:

  • It’s soft.
  • It’s lazy.
  • Nobody tries.
  • It’s disrespectful to the fans.

When legends are roasting the event more than I am, that tells you something.

Let’s talk about the Skills Challenge.

It used to showcase actual basketball skill. Now it feels like something designed by a marketing intern who just discovered TikTok.

Half the time players don’t even care if they win. They jog through drills like they’re late for a brunch reservation. There’s more urgency at a DMV.

And the three-point contest? It’s still the most watchable part. But even that feels like the only adult in the room at a kid’s birthday party.

The dunk contest? Please.

Unless Vince Carter is walking through that tunnel again, it’s been on life support for years. We went from Carter and Zach LaVine putting on shows to guys missing dunks for 10 straight minutes while a celebrity judge pretends to be excited.

It’s painful.

The regular season doesn’t matter enough.

The players are managing minutes.
The playoffs are what counts.
And nobody wants to risk injury in an exhibition.

I get it.

But if that’s the case — cancel it.

Stop pretending this is something it’s not.

The NFL figured out the Pro Bowl was broken and turned it into a flag football gimmick. The NBA keeps trying to duct tape creativity onto a product that players don’t care about.

You can change the format 15 times.
Draft teams.
Target score.
East vs West.
Elam Ending.
Confetti cannons.

If the players don’t compete, it doesn’t matter.

All-Star Weekend has become:

  • Sneaker drops
  • Celebrity courtside shots
  • Social media moments
  • Halftime concerts
  • Influencer interviews

The actual basketball is the least interesting part.

You know it’s bad when fans tune in more for what Kevin Hart says during the Celebrity Game than for the actual All-Stars.

That’s not growth. That’s distraction.

Here’s My Radical Solution

Cancel the game.

Instead:

  • Give players a week off.
  • Donate All-Star revenue to community programs.
  • Host a 1-on-1 tournament for $5 million winner-take-all.
  • Or have retired legends vs influencers and just admit it’s entertainment.

But stop calling it competitive basketball.

Because it’s not.

Why It’s a Waste of Time

  1. The players don’t care.
  2. The fans are bored.
  3. The legends hate it.
  4. The effort is embarrassing.
  5. It doesn’t represent elite basketball.

If the whole point is to celebrate greatness, then why does it feel like nobody’s great enough to try?

This isn’t hate. It’s tough love.

The NBA is the most talented it has ever been. The skill level is insane. The stars are global icons.

And yet the one weekend that’s supposed to celebrate all of that feels like a sponsored layup drill.

When your biggest star moments are players throwing 40-foot alley-oops with nobody within 10 feet… that’s not basketball. That’s choreography.

Shut it down.

Put it out of its misery.

Or bring back pride.

Because right now, All-Star Weekend feels like a Netflix show that should’ve been canceled after Season 2 — but somehow keeps getting renewed.

My name is Errol Marks and I’d like to tell you why I believe I can be a major asset to your station. I’m from a small town in Long Island, NY and from a very young age I’ve always had a love for sports talk radio. Growing up, I would listen religiously to shows like Mike and the Mad Dog, Mike and Mike, and Imus in the Morning and studied what made those shows so great. I’ve made it my goal to be as influential as the hosts I grew up listening to, and with my knowledge of all major sports, enthusiastic and fearless personality, and my preparation skills, I know I can get to that level. This is an art and a medium that I’m passionate about and one that I feel can never be replaced.

What makes my story so unique goes beyond my 10+ years of experience in sports media. In addition to over ten years of creating and hosting sports talk radio shows, I created the World Wide Sports Radio Network - one of the first ever digital sports radio networks - in 2012. Since the network began, we have had some of the best content in digital sports media. We have six quality shows on our network covering all sports and sports betting. I’m currently hosting New York’s Sports Loud Mouth, and you can find that show and the rest of our great shows at https://worldwidesportsradio.com/.

Our network’s content and listenership has grown significantly year to year and, in the past year, we’ve achieved 3.6 million minutes listened on our audio stream, over 29k followers on tik tok, 500k viewed on YouTube, 1.7 million downloads on Apple Podcasts, and 906,917 plays on Spotify. While we are enjoying a continued increase in growth, I feel that we can take this to a new level and a new audience with your help.

My goal since the day I started is to become the greatest and most recognizable sports radio show host in the country. I can guarantee that nobody in this industry currently has my passion, personality or ability to shape the future of sports broadcasting and entertainment like I do. If given the opportunity, I hope to further share my story and many talents with you and your station.
