Week two we saw some teams get back on track and we saw some other teams continue their winning path. Some teams started much stronger than others and teams such as the Chargers just look super uncharacteristic. The injury bug continued to hit some teams as it will every week but this week had some big ones.Jayden Daniels can’t catch a break with the Commanders as he dislocates his elbow once again. Jaxson Dart and the Giants had the worst case scenario versus the Rams in their game. You may be wondering what I think of all of this and how things stack up. Here are my rankings after week two of the NFL season.
1. Seahawks: Drew Lock just keeps feeding Jaxson Smith Njigba and it’s working. Seattle being able to win on the road with a backup QB shows you just how good they are. Their impressive winning record continues as they are still undefeated post Super Bowl, and until they lose, they will remain at the number one spot. Beating a divisional opponent on the road is no easy feat and the Seahawks did just that. They definitely still have a chance to remain undefeated even with Drew Lock at the helm versus a Marcus Mariota led Commanders team in week 3.
2. Bills: It seemed like it was destiny for the Bills to win their home opener in Buffalo with their brand new stadium shining bright. It felt like before kickoff It seemed like Detroit didn’t even have a chance however, they ended up making it a 10 point game at the end. Buffalo’s offense flourished and James Cook III went for over 100 yards of scrimmage. Josh Allen had two rushing touchdowns and put the team on his back once again. This week, they have the struggling Chargers who one may think also do not have a chance against the Bills as Buffalo has now indicated that they’re home turf is a great home-field advantage.
3. Rams: The Rams dominated the Giants on Monday Night Football. Davante Adams filled in for an injured Nacua, and he was found in the end zone as we all would expect. Matthew Stafford was back on track and they put up a lot of points on the Giants. Jaxson Dart was of course injured on the other side. But it was the Rams defense that made the difference. Aaron Donald made his debut and got things going. It was hard seeing the Rams fall to 0-2 but they got back on track and moved to 1-1.
4. Chiefs: The prediction of the Chiefs beating the Colts was true, but the way it may have happened nobody could have guessed from the jump. This game obviously went to overtime and was super close. The offenses went back-and-forth between Mahomes and Daniel Jones. In the end, however, the Kansas City Chiefs seemed inevitable with the home crowd behind them. They inched their way to victory in overtime (despite a controversial call) and completed a narrow victory against the Colts. Kenneth Walker continues to eat, and I love this pairing for him and Patrick Mahomes. A quarterback’s best friend is a great running-back to lean on.
5. 49ers: Not much to say about San Francisco except despite their injuries already, they beat down on the Miami team. If 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy keeps playing like this, he will absolutely be in MVP conversations, which is crazy to say.
6. Eagles: Was this a lucky win? Or was this Jalen Hurt’s excellence? On the last drive for the Philadelphia Eagles you could just see Jalen Hurts picking the defense apart. It was a close game with the Tennessee Titans, but the Eagles pulled away with the road victory and improved to 2-0 on the season. Saquon Barkley left early with an injury, but then later came back in the game. Devonte Smith looks like the clear wide receiver one so far and it is much needed for this offense. This week the Eagles have Chicago who is without Caleb Williams so I could see Philly moving to 3-0. Watch out for the Eagles and the Cowboys to be competing for the division later during the year.
7. Bengals: The Bengals defense seems like it’s for real through two games. They went into Houston’s own house and made it tough on CJ Stroud. David Montgomery was basically a non factor for the opposing side and the Texans not having a run game, made the offense suffer. This is of course thanks to Dexter Lawrence again for the Bengals defense and it seems much improved so far compared to last year. Jamar Chase had a great game of course and the Bengals played complementary football! Something they are not used to. Up next for the Bengals is a divisional test at home versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
8. Ravens: Obviously the Ravens should’ve won the game versus New Orleans due to a tricky call, but the Ravens still made it happen without their star receiver, Zay Flowers. Rashod Bateman had a big day and was heavily involved and so was their star running-back Henry of course. Quarterback Lamar Jackson threw a late last drive interception that he will certainly want back and that is why I have Baltimore making a big bounce back this week versus Dallas. This team needs defense desperately and I can see things improving. With a team with a new head coach however, some things can be easier said than done.
9. Broncos: At first it seemed like nobody would score in the first quarter and no one didn’t. Denver had a tough task in containing the Jaguars offense, but they succeeded. It’s always hard to play at mile high and the Broncos bounced back. Quarterback Bo Nix had a pretty good game throwing for 288 yards but the turnovers needed to stop. The running game still needs to be established with this team, but it was a big day for receiver Jaylen Waddle with 138 receiving yards. Much needed game for Denver.
10. Jags: The Jaguars round off the end of the top 10 teams in the NFL and they lose a tough one in Denver as I just mentioned. The Jaguars offense seems to be getting better with each given week. This was just a tough game against Denver’s defense who looked more like themselves this game. Trevor Lawrence will have a big year and I expect big things from the Jaguars this year as the AFC south does not look strong at all.
11. Vikings: Good news is that Kyler Murray will be back this week, so the quarterback issues will not be apparent with this team hopefully. If Kyle Murray stays healthy, he has a top five defense behind him and the Vikings showed why they are a top five defense this past Sunday against the Chicago Bears. I predict Brian floor defense will make it hard on Baker Mayfield and Tampa Tampa Bay this week.
12. Cowboys: The Cowboys had their turn in beating on the Commanders and it was a good game for them all around. Quarterback Dak Prescott’s pocket presence continues to be elite. Ceedee Lamb had a big day receiving for the Cowboys getting into the end zone multiple times. I just wish the run game would be more established. Just be on the lookout for this defense to play poorly again, but they could shock us and not play like that ever again like how they did versus the Giants in week one.
13. Lions: Detroit shocked us a little bit and kept it a close game Ish with the Buffalo Bills. Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown showed why they paid the big bucks. With both of them getting into the end zone, the Detroit offense was still hanging around. This defense just has a lot of work to do. Dan Campbell looks a little bit lost on the sideline. However, I expected Troy to have a big bounce back week against the New York Jets at home this week. Head up Lions.
14. Pats: The Patriots offense continues to look dull without AJ Brown. This is only two weeks into the season, but the Patriots need a receiver to step up in Brown’s absence. Yes they beat the Steelers, but they made it a close game still. The defense continues to carry but how long will they be able to do so?
15. Saints: The Saints get a huge statement win in Baltimore as they beat the ravens in their own house for their home opener. Tyler Shough looks good in the pocket and clearly has a great connection with receiver Chris Olave. The Saints defense continues to show why it is pesky and that teams will probably continue to struggle against this defense at times.
16. Texans: This is Houston’s second straight year starting 0-2. As I mentioned before, their run game was nonexistent. David Montgomery could not get going at all and it was just a bad day for him after having a multi touchdown week last week. Quarterback CJ Stroud didn’t even play that bad however, it just wasn’t enough against the Bengals defense who seem to be legit this year.
17. Packers: The Green Bay Packers barely escaped a New York Jets team in an away game and it was an ugly away game. The Packers were on the brink of losing 7 straight but avoided that and improved to 1-1 on the year. Matt Lefleur’s hot seat sizzle’s a little less now and the Packers refocus on their prize; the NFC North Title. I thought Christian Watson had an exceptional game. This run game however, continues to struggle without star running back Josh Jacobs.
18. Panthers: The Panthers destroyed their divisional opponent during week two. The defense came away with so many takeaways and even scored at one point. Bryce Young and Jalen Coker have been connecting really well. This offense keeps playing like this, it will be positive for Carolina moving forward. Would just like to see them face tougher opponents soon enough.
19. Bears: The Bears have no quarterback now and it will be tough for their offense to keep it up without Caleb Williams. Even with their star quarterback, they struggled mightily against their divisional opponent in the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears will be without their quarterback for the next week or couple weeks, so be on the lookout for Chicago to be pretty high on this list. Without a quarterback, sure you can still compete but with a poor defense that Chicago is mostly known for, unless they play differently I cannot see this Chicago team competing with many. Rome Odunze has gotten off to a slow start and I don’t see that getting any better now with a different quarterback in. Time to panic already in Chicago?
20. Colts: Colts went toe to toe with Patrick Mahomes but it just was not enough. Jonathan Taylor continues to carry this team but outside of that there’s just really nobody to hang your hat on. The Colts fall to 0-2 on the year and they have a huge test this week versus the division opponent being the Houston Texans. Luckily they are home so we will see if they get the first win this week. Daniel Jones needs a big-time receiver. If only TY Hilton was still playing.
21. Bucs: Tampa Bay was one play away from being 1-1. Which is why I am giving them a little bit of grace on this week’s rankings. However Baker should be playing way better especially, against his former squad. It has been a slow start for Tampa but they still have time to inch back upwards. The question is will they? They have a decently big test this week against the Vikings and I am afraid if not now then when? The Bucs cannot allow themselves to fall to 0-3 or else things could get out of hand quickly. I feel like this team is too good for that. Or that they will just underachieve like normal. The run game was nowhere to be found and star receiver Emeka Egbuka seems to be like he’s the only receiver out there.
22. Raiders: The Raiders defeated a huge opponent in the divisional rivals Chargers. Raiders are building their culture of football and they want to keep it like this and keep the winning going for as long as possible. The Raiders are not used to having a hot start like this, but here they are. I wonder how many games it will take for Fernando Mendoza to start playing for Las Vegas. Kirk Cousins will only last so long and when Fernando starts, it will be a whole new look Raiders vibe. The Raiders could even move to 3-0 with the Saints this week. However, I predict reality will set in more when they head to the loud city of New Orleans. Those fans will be ready!
23. Chargers: To keep it short and sweet the Chargers look outright terrible. Through 2 weeks the Chargers have 10 turnovers. Omarion Hampton seems to be the only light of this offense and the offensive line cannot protect Justin Herbert for anything. It is a shame that Joe Alt and these great offensive linemen are playing like this but they are not giving Justin Herbert help. Star receiver Ladd McConkey is banged up already, and we are only two games into the season folks and the Chargers season looks already over! If the Chargers had a way better defense I feel like the way this team would go would be completely different. However, with star defensive back Derwin James also playing injured it’s hard for the rest of the defense to step up. As I said earlier, they get Buffalo this upcoming week and it will be a bloodbath as the desperate Chargers try to not fall to 0-3. Though I think it will happen.
24. Steelers: Aaron Rodgers said it himself, that was the most he ever got hit like that in his career. The Steelers offensive line continues to play poorly and their offense continues to be stagnant. D.K Metcalf got locked up by Christian Gonzalez and the rest of the receiver room was quiet. When will the playcalling ever get better for Pittsburgh?
25. Giants: It was the worst case scenario for the Giants as the biggest story for them will be losing their star quarterback Jaxson Dart. It’s a Knee injury for Jaxson Dart and we wish him a speedy recovery. It was a disaster from start to finish on both sides of the ball as Harbaugh had a tough time figuring out how to get the ball moving on offense. Even trying to get running-back Najee Harris in the mix on third downs but it was no match for the Rams defense. They get a much easier opponent in the Titans this week, but with Jameis Winston at the helm for the rest of the season, is all hope or purpose lost for the Giants this season? Their defense can certainly still gain an identity throughout all of this.
26. Jets: The New York Jets lost this football game due to poor coaching and it went all the way to overtime. It seemed like the old Jet ways were back after blowing a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter. Running-back Braelon Allen had a nice touchdown and continues to run the rock well, but Breece Hall needs to be more productive in games like this. They might be passing the ball a little too much however a bright spot for this Jets team so far in two games is surprisingly quarterback Geno Smith not committing any turnovers. Another bright spot is how the defense has been playing, and that is probably due to the fact that Jet veteran Demario Davis is back in the building. Not to mention the rookie sensation that has been on defense so far rookie David Bailey. This week the Jets travel to Detroit, who to be honest have no business in beating.
27. Titans: The Titans seemed to have a little bit more life against the Philadelphia Eagles this past week but the offense still holds this team back greatly. Cam Ward needs to develop a lot better or else I’m afraid people will be still impatient with the coaching and quarterback position in years to come. Just a bad football game and choked the game away completely. Gave the game to Philadelphia.
28. Commanders: Commanders also had a worst case scenario in their game when star quarterback Jayden Daniels went down with a dislocated elbow once again. They got destroyed by the divisional rival Cowboys and the season looks bleak for them once again no real offensive weapon for whatever quarterback is standing behind there and the defense is terrible. What’s new? Seems like we are right back where we started last season Washington same old same old.
29. Cardinals: The Cardinals got destroyed by the Seahawks, and their team is just as boring as the Commanders. Get Marvin Harrison the ball on offense he has been invisible up to this point and it is sad to see Jacoby Verett hasn’t even been playing that bad as always but what’s the point at this point. Jeremiyah Love can shock a lot of people and do well on this team this year but I just don’t see it right away 100%. This team just needs a lot of work.
30. Browns: The Browns basically need Weather delay to win. Rookie receiver Denzel Boston made the game-winning touchdown catch and that was a positive note for them, but for the rest of the team it’s just bland. It’s a shame of how well they draft though. One play differently from rookie Denzel Boston and this team would be 0-2. Maybe they will prove me wrong and start winning and they honestly can with Carolina at home coming up. With a poor AFC North division this year anything is possible. But for the Browns I don’t see it being their year this year. Who would have thought?
31. Dolphins: The Dolphins just don’t look like they want to win football games and it’s a shame. Their roster is filled with names but throughout two games it has been nothing but blowouts. Malik Willis is mediocre at best and there is no real playmaker outside of star running-back Devon Achane. I feel like this team this year when I write about them I will be itching and it will be hard to find positive things to write about this team. Yikes, Miami.
32. Falcons: The Falcons have yet to have a single play in the opponent’s red zone, and that alone was enough for me to put them at No. 32. It was a tough decision between Atlanta and Miami, but when you’re not even competing and you have a quarterback circus involving Cooper Rush, it’s hard to overlook. The fans were calling for the third-string QB to come in because of how poorly Rush was playing. Then, the third-stringer comes into the game and immediately throws a pick-six to the opposing team.0-2. No life whatsoever.Double yikes, Atlanta Falcons.
