New Year’s Day is supposed to be peaceful.
You wake up late.
You eat leftovers you swore you wouldn’t touch again.
You sit on the couch ready for “some competitive football.”
Instead, college football looked at America and said:
“Nah… today we choose violence.”
By the end of the day, we had three blowouts, one heart attack, multiple draft boards rewritten, and Alabama fans googling “transfer portal deadlines.”
Let’s get into it — with zero mercy.
GAME ONE: Oregon Ducks vs Texas Tech Red Raiders
Final Score: Oregon 23 – Texas Tech 0
(Also known as: “This Was Over By the Coin Toss”)
Texas Tech had a great season.
A proud season.
A season worth celebrating.
Unfortunately, they ran into Dan Lanning and his football Death Star.
Dante Moore: NFL Scouts Were Texting “LOL”
Dante Moore didn’t just beat one of the best defenses in the country — he emotionally detached from them.
This wasn’t flashy football.
This was professional football.
- Pre-snap reads? Perfect.
- Pocket presence? Calm like he’s filing taxes.
- Decision-making? Like he already owns a clipboard on Sundays.
Texas Tech tried blitzing.
Moore slid.
They tried coverage disguises.
Moore waited.
They tried praying.
Moore threw completions.
By halftime, Texas Tech’s defensive game plan was basically:
“Hope he cramps.”
Oregon’s Defense: TSA-Level Security
Texas Tech never crossed midfield with confidence.
Every drive felt like it needed permission.
Oregon’s defense didn’t gamble.
They didn’t over-pursue.
They just closed doors and turned off the lights.
Dan Lanning coached this game like a man who knows:
“We’re not here for drama — we’re here for January trophies.”
Final score says 23-0.
Reality says this was worse than that.

GAME TWO: Indiana Hoosiers vs Alabama Crimson Tide
Final Score: Indiana 38 – Alabama 3
(Nick Saban somewhere nodded and said “Yep.”)
Let’s talk about the game that broke the internet and emotionally wrecked Tuscaloosa.
Fernando Mendoza: Heisman Winner, Alabama Eraser
Fernando Mendoza walked into this game like:
“I don’t care about your banners, your history, or your ESPN documentaries.”
And then he proved it.
- 3 touchdown passes
- Commanded the offense like a 10-year vet
- Made Alabama defenders look confused, tired, and slightly offended
Mendoza wasn’t flashy — he was efficient.
And efficient quarterbacks destroy teams that rely on intimidation.
Indiana’s Front Seven: Straight-Up Criminal
For YEARS, Alabama ran the ball down everyone’s throat.
On New Year’s Day?
- No holes
- No push
- No chance
Indiana’s defensive line lived in Alabama’s backfield like they paid rent.
They pressured Ty Simpson relentlessly.
They hit him early.
They hit him often.
And eventually, they knocked him out of the game.
Yes — that Ty Simpson, potential first-round NFL pick.

This Alabama team?
- Offensive line: overwhelmed
- Run game: nonexistent
- Confidence: evaporated by the second quarter
Coach Curt Cignetti didn’t just outcoach Kalen DeBoer.

GAME THREE: Ole Miss Rebels vs Georgia Bulldogs
Final Score: Ole Miss 39 – Georgia 34
(The One Game That Actually Tried to Kill Us)
Finally.
A game that delivered pain, joy, anxiety, and chaos.
Trinidad Chambliss: No Hype, All Dawg (Wrong Dawg)
Trinidad Chambliss played the game of his life.
- 362 total yards
- 2 touchdowns
- Fearless decision-making
He looked like a young Deshaun Watson — minus the off-field disasters and PR meetings.
Was he perfect? No.
Was he tough? Absolutely.
This kid didn’t care that Georgia was Georgia.
He treated them like just another obstacle.
Pete Golding: Coaching Chess While Kirby Played Checkers
Pete Golding outcoached Kirby Smart.
Read that again slowly.
Golding:
- Controlled tempo
- Neutralized Georgia’s strengths
- Made halftime adjustments that actually worked
Georgia looked tight.
Ole Miss looked free.

This game is going to be unhinged.

- Miami: Speed everywhere, chaos energy
- Ole Miss: Momentum, confidence, fearless play-calling
Key Battle:
Miami’s athletes vs Ole Miss’s composure.
If this turns into a track meet, Miami wins.
If Ole Miss keeps it ugly, physical, and emotional — Rebels survive.

Someone will fake a punt.
Someone will blow a coverage.
Someone will blame the refs.
And we will love every second.This New Year’s Day proved one thing:
College football isn’t broken — it’s evolving.

The new blood isn’t scared.

What makes my story so unique goes beyond my 10+ years of experience in sports media. In addition to over ten years of creating and hosting sports talk radio shows, I created the World Wide Sports Radio Network - one of the first ever digital sports radio networks - in 2012. Since the network began, we have had some of the best content in digital sports media. We have six quality shows on our network covering all sports and sports betting.
