Forget sharing the spotlight. Kylian Mbappé looked at Lionel Messi, shrugged his shoulders and basically said, “You can have the World Cup heartbreak… I’ll take the Golden Boot!”

While Spain was busy celebrating its second World Cup championship after a thrilling 2-1 extra-time victory over Argentina, Mbappé was putting another trophy on his mantle. The France and Real Madrid superstar captured his second straight World Cup Golden Boot, becoming the first player in history to win the award in back-to-back tournaments after finishing with an incredible 10 goals.

At this point, defenders around the world are filing complaints with FIFA. Somebody check this guy for cheat codes because scoring goals has become easier for Mbappé than finding parking in Manhattan.

Lionel Messi finished with eight goals, which is nothing to be ashamed of… unless you’re trying to catch a guy who treats the World Cup like it’s his own personal highlight reel.

Mbappé’s tournament was absolutely ridiculous.

He opened with two goals against Senegal.

Then scored two more against Iraq.

He gave Norway a break for one game because even superheroes need a day off.

Then he torched Sweden with another pair of goals in the Round of 32.

He scored the lone goal against Paraguay in the Round of 16, added another against Morocco in the quarterfinals, and although France was shut out by Spain in the semifinals, Mbappé wasn’t done making defenders miserable.

France found itself trailing England 4-0 at halftime in the third-place match, and Mbappé basically said, “Well… somebody around here has to score.” He buried two more goals as France mounted a furious comeback before falling 6-4.

Meanwhile, Spain wasn’t exactly leaving empty-handed.

Rodri was named Player of the Tournament after controlling the midfield from start to finish.

Young star Pau Cubarsí earned Young Player of the Tournament, proving Spain’s future is just as scary as its present.

Goalkeeper Unai Simón captured the Golden Glove, allowing just one goal in seven matches.

And Ferran Torres became a national hero by scoring the extra-time winner that delivered Spain its second World Cup championship.

So congratulations to Spain for winning the biggest prize in soccer.

Congratulations to Mbappé for reminding the world that if there’s a Golden Boot available, he’s probably already measuring it for his trophy case.
