Glenn won three games in his first season, the locker room never fully bought in, and things unraveled so badly that Steve Wilks didn’t even make it to the end of the year. He was fired before the season ended—which is the football version of getting escorted out of a wedding before the DJ even warms up.
So let’s be crystal clear:
This defensive coordinator hire is not optional.
This is not a “let’s see how it goes” situation.

Aaron Glenn doesn’t need a cheerleader.

Morris isn’t a scheme-only guy. He adjusts. He disguises. He teaches. He doesn’t call the same blitz 14 times and pray the quarterback slips on the turf.

- 🏠 New Jersey native
- Understands New York pressure and media insanity
- Would instantly bring credibility and calm to Glenn’s staff
This is the kind of hire that doesn’t just help the defense—it helps Aaron Glenn survive.

If the Jets don’t aggressively pursue Raheem Morris, they’re playing themselves.
Wink Martindale isn’t for everyone—but he is for teams that are tired of being pushed around.
Yes, he spent the last year at Michigan.
Yes, things blew up with the Giants.
But that wasn’t about bad defense. That was about two alpha personalities trying to drive the same car. Daboll wanted control. Wink wanted freedom. Boom—collision.
With Aaron Glenn? Different dynamic. Mutual respect. Defensive minds speaking the same language.

Risky, yes—but at least the risk comes with proven results.
Is it likely? No.
Is it brilliant? Absolutely.
McDermott has:
- Coached nine years in the AFC East
- Seen every Jets flaw up close
- Built elite defenses in Buffalo
- Managed playoff expectations and real pressure
If he ever wanted to step back from being the guy and just coach ball? This would be a masterstroke.
He’d mentor Glenn, stabilize the room, and quietly raise the entire organization’s football IQ.
Grade: B+ (Dream Scenario)
This idea should not survive daylight.
Bart Scott—whose coaching résumé is exactly zero snaps, zero schemes, zero play calls—believes he should be the Jets defensive coordinator… for $1 million a year.
Let’s review:
- ❌ Never coached
- ❌ Never designed a defense
- ❌ Never called plays
- ❌ Never developed players
But he has:
- 🎤 A loud mouth
- 📣 Strong opinions
- 🎧 Radio reps
This is not First Take.

Running an NFL defense isn’t a podcast. You don’t just press record and hope it works out.
