Somewhere in the middle of an extra-innings circus against the Tampa Bay Rays, Jazz Chisholm Jr. gave us a moment so pure… so unfiltered… so “wait, WHAT are you doing?”… that it deserves to be framed and hung in Cooperstown under the section titled: “You Gotta Know the Rules, My Guy.”
Let’s set the scene.
Extra innings. Ghost runner on second. Tension high. Fans sweating. Managers aging in real time.
And Jazz?
Jazz is out there playing backyard baseball like it’s Thanksgiving at Uncle Tony’s house.
Apparently, our guy didn’t fully understand how the double-play rule works in that situation. The result? A mental misfire so loud that even the hot dog vendor in section 312 turned around like, “Yo… did that really just happen?”
And then—like a cherry on top of a comedy sundae—Aaron Boone had to come out and defend it.
DEFEND IT.
That’s like your teacher explaining to the class why you ate the homework.
The Resume vs. Reality
Now let’s be fair—because even your boy Errol Marks plays both sides before he cooks you.
Jazz did have a solid season last year with the New York Yankees:
- Around a .250+ batting average
- 20+ home runs
- 20+ stolen bases
- Electric athleticism
- Highlight-reel plays mixed with… blooper-reel decisions
So yeah—talent? Absolutely.
Entertainment value? Off the charts.

Let’s not forget—this is the SAME man who, this offseason:
- Basically put himself in the 8 years, $300+ million conversation (roughly $38M a year range)
- Talked about becoming a 50/50 player (50 homers, 50 steals… sir… relax)
- Previously hyped the Yankees as the best team in baseball even when they were playing like a Netflix password—shared, confused, and barely working
- Called their defense elite… while simultaneously contributing to weekly “Shaqtin’ A Fool: Baseball Edition”
Jazz doesn’t just talk—he broadcasts.

Because at this point, it feels less like Jazz Chisholm Jr. and more like Jazz Jizzholm: The Human Highlight Reel of “Wait… Why?”
The flair. The flash. The need to be the center of attention—it’s all part of the package. And hey, baseball needs personalities. It needs swagger.
But it also needs… you know… knowing the rules of the sport you’re asking $38 million a year to play.
The Bigger Problem
Here’s the thing—and this is where we get real for a second.
When a player:
- Makes repeated mental mistakes
- Publicly sets sky-high expectations
- And then has moments like this
…it stops being funny and starts being concerning.
Because talent gets you paid.
But awareness keeps you paid.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. is one of the most exciting players in baseball.
But right now?
He’s also one of the most confusing.
You can’t be:
- A $300 million dreamer
- A 50/50 prophet
- AND a guy who forgets situational rules in extra innings
That math don’t math.
So until further notice, the scouting report reads:
5-tool talent.
1-tool decision making.

I’m from a small town in Long Island, NY and from a very young age I’ve always had a love for sports talk radio. Growing up, I would listen religiously to shows like Mike and the Mad Dog, Mike and Mike, and Imus in the Morning and studied what made those shows so great. What makes my story so unique goes beyond my 10+ years of experience in sports media. In addition to over ten years of creating and hosting sports talk radio shows, I created the World Wide Sports Radio Network - one of the first ever digital sports radio networks - in 2012. Since the network began, we have had some of the best content in digital sports media. We have six quality shows on our network covering all sports and sports betting.
