If you told me back in August that the College Football Playoff National Championship would come down to the Miami Hurricanes vs. the Indiana Hoosiers, I would’ve checked your cooler for illegal substances, called your family, and hidden your car keys.
Yet here we are.
Two teams.
Zero blue blood expectations.
Maximum chaos.
This isn’t just a championship game — this is college football’s fever dream, wrapped in shoulder pads and bad decisions.
Let’s start with Miami, because college football is always better when Miami is relevant and absolutely insufferable about it.
The Hurricanes punched their ticket by knocking off Ole Miss 31–27 in a game that ended the only way Miami games ever should: with controversy, screaming, slow-motion replays, and SEC fans threatening lawsuits.
Was it a catch?
Was it pass interference?
Was the ref from Coral Gables?
Doesn’t matter. Miami survived, and that’s the most “Miami is back” sentence ever written.
So… are the Hurricanes actually back?

Here’s the real context people forget while dusting off the Turnover Chain:
The last time Miami played for a national championship was January 2003, the infamous Fiesta Bowl loss to Ohio State. That team?
- Ken Dorsey at QB
- Andre Johnson terrorizing secondaries
- Willis McGahee running like a freight train
- A defense that hit like it was sponsored by bail bondsmen
They haven’t sniffed this stage in over 20 years.
So yes — Miami is back… even if they don’t win it all.
Why?
Because being “back” isn’t just rings.
It’s relevance.
It’s fear.
It’s every recruit in America saying, “Yeah… I wanna play there.”
Winning the title would be validation.
Getting here is resurrection.
Then there’s Indiana.
Let me say that again slowly.
Indiana.

Not basketball Indiana.
Not “they’re spooky this year” Indiana.
College Football Playoff Championship Game Indiana.
The Hoosiers didn’t just beat Oregon.
They tortured them.
56–22.
That score is so disrespectful it should come with an apology letter.
And the face of the crime scene?
Fernando Mendoza.
Heisman Trophy winner.
Walking highlight reel.
Future No. 1 overall pick who just took Oregon’s defense, stuffed it in a locker, and changed his LinkedIn profile to NFL Franchise Savior.
This is the first time Indiana has ever been here, which means nobody knows how to act — including Indiana fans, who are still asking if this is legal.
Now here’s where it gets spicy.
Curt Cignetti has Indiana on the brink of immortality…
…and the Las Vegas Raiders are lurking like vultures with a checkbook.
If Indiana wins the national championship, you’re telling me Mark Davis isn’t:
- Staring at Mendoza film
- Googling “Can I draft a QB and hire his coach?”
- Practicing his press conference voice
Could Cignetti and Mendoza ride off together to the NFL like college football’s most aggressive LinkedIn promotion?
Absolutely.
And if they lose?
Indiana still wins. Because this run changes the program forever.
For Miami
- Win it → “The U is officially back, shut up forever.”
- Lose it → Still elite, still relevant, still terrifying.
Miami’s recruiting machine doesn’t need a ring — it needs proof of life. They’ve got it.
For Indiana
- Win it → Statue. Stadium rename. State holiday.
- Lose it → Still the greatest season in school history.
Indiana isn’t playing with pressure — they’re playing with house money and zero fear, which is terrifying.
Miami Hurricanes
- QB: Calm under pressure, chaotic under heat — very Miami.
- Edge rusher: NFL scouts drooling over first-round traits.
- DBs: Fast, cocky, and allergic to pass interference calls.
Indiana Hoosiers
- Fernando Mendoza (QB): No. 1 pick energy. Changes games by blinking.
- WR1: Sunday-ready route runner.
- LB core: Physical, angry, and clearly raised on film study and disrespect.
This game is stacked with NFL Draft gold, from first-round locks to guys who will destroy the Combine and become Twitter darlings overnight.
This game isn’t about tradition.
It’s about timing.
Miami is fighting to reclaim a throne they once owned.
Indiana is fighting to build one from scratch.
One team has swagger baked into the DNA.
The other has nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Either way, college football wins.
And if this game ends without at least:
- One controversial call
- One coach interview that makes no sense
- One player instantly trending on social media
Then it didn’t live up to the moment.
Buckle up.
Because Turnover Chains and Cornfield Chaos are about to collide — and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
