Let me take you back to a magical football time.

The year was 2011.
The New York Giants shocked the world in Super Bowl XLVI, once again ruining February for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

Eli Manning was delivering fourth-quarter miracles.
The defensive line was hunting quarterbacks like they owed them rent money. And Tom Coughlin ran the team with the discipline of a man who believed being on time meant you were already late.

Giants fans thought another championship window was open.

Instead… the franchise entered 15 years of football therapy.

And standing at the center of the chaos has been owner John Mara.

In true Errol Marks – NY Sports Loud Mouth fashion, here are the 10 regrets that turned the Giants from champions into the NFL’s longest running rebuild.

10. 2012 – The Super Bowl Hangover Nobody Wanted to Admit

Record: 9–7

Coming off a championship, the Giants looked like a team that celebrated for the entire offseason… and part of the regular season too.

The offensive line began to decline.
The defense lost its edge.

But the organization treated it like a minor issue.

“Watching the Giants ignore roster problems was like watching someone hear a smoke alarm and say, ‘Eh… it’s probably the toaster.’”

9. 2013 – Eli vs The Interception Fairy

Record: 7–9

This season featured Eli Manning throwing 27 interceptions.

Opposing defensive backs were catching passes like they were part of the Giants receiving corps.

Meanwhile the offensive line protected Eli about as well as a screen door protects against a hurricane.

8. 2014 – The Offense That Needed GPS

Record: 6–10

Enter offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.

His new offense was supposed to modernize the Giants.

Instead it looked like the team was trying to stream Netflix on airport Wi-Fi from 2003.

The Giants were drifting further away from contention.

7. 2015 – The Fourth Quarter Horror Show

Record: 6–10

If the Giants had a fourth-quarter lead this season, fans weren’t excited.

They were terrified.

Week after week the Giants blew games late.

By December Giants fans had developed a routine:

  • Hope in the first half
  • Panic in the third quarter
  • Emotional damage in the fourth

And after the season…

The biggest mistake of the last 15 years happened.

6. 2016 – The Season That Fooled Everyone

Record: 11–5

The Giants looked like contenders again.

The defense was excellent.

Fans believed the franchise was back.

Then came the infamous boat trip photo before the playoff game against the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers.

The offense vanished.

Rodgers lit them up.

Season over.

“The Giants receivers went on a Miami boat trip before the game… unfortunately their hands stayed there.”

5. 2017 – The Eli Manning Bench Disaster

Record: 3–13

Coach Ben McAdoo made one of the most controversial decisions in franchise history.

He benched Eli Manning, ending his 210-game start streak.

Fans were furious.

The locker room was confused.

And the organization suddenly looked like it had no clue what direction it was heading.

“Ben McAdoo benched Eli like a man who already had his LinkedIn updated.”

4. 2018 – The Dave Gettleman Experiment

Record: 5–11

The Giants hired Dave Gettleman to fix the roster.

His plan was to restore the old-school Giants identity.

Instead fans got confusing roster decisions and a rebuild that felt like it was being done using instructions from 1993.

“Watching the Gettleman rebuild was like watching someone try to fix a Tesla with a flip phone.”

3. 2019 – The Daniel Jones Gamble

Record: 4–12

The Giants drafted Daniel Jones sixth overall.

The reaction across New York was immediate.

Half the fan base believed.

The other half looked at the TV and said:

“Wait… they drafted WHO?”

Jones showed flashes.

He also fumbled so much that Giants fans started treating the football like it was covered in butter.

2. The Coaching Carousel

Since 2016 the Giants have cycled through coaches like a revolving door:

  • Ben McAdoo
  • Pat Shurmur
  • Joe Judge
  • Brian Daboll

That’s not stability.

That’s NFL speed dating.

“The Giants change coaches so often the team facility should start offering exit interviews.”

1. THE BIGGEST REGRET: Letting Tom Coughlin Walk Away

This stands above every other mistake.

After the 2015 season, the Giants and Tom Coughlin parted ways.

The man who built the culture.

The man who delivered two Super Bowl championships.

The man who beat Tom Brady twice on the biggest stage in football.

Since he left?

The Giants have spent nearly a decade and a half searching for that identity again.

“Letting Tom Coughlin leave was like firing the chef at a five-star restaurant and replacing him with someone who just learned how to microwave pizza.”

And the Giants have been starving for winning football ever since.

Before we end this Giants therapy session, the NY Sports Loud Mouth has five more thoughts.

5. The “We’re Close” Illusion

Every few seasons the Giants convince themselves they’re just a few pieces away.

Meanwhile the rest of the NFC looks like a Ferrari dealership and the Giants are fixing a 1997 Honda Civic with duct tape.

“Every time John Mara says the Giants are close, another fan spills their beer laughing.”

4. Loyalty to a Fault

The Giants are loyal.

Sometimes too loyal.

Bad decisions hang around longer than they should.

“The Giants hold onto bad ideas longer than people hold onto flip phones.”

3. The Old-School Obsession

The Giants talk about doing things the old Giants way.

Problem is…

The NFL moved into the future while the Giants were still trying to win games like it’s 1986.

“The Giants offensive philosophy sometimes looks like it was downloaded from a VHS tape.”

2. The Never Ending Rebuild

The Giants rebuild has lasted so long some fans have gone from high school to a mortgage waiting for another contender.

“At this point the Giants rebuild has lasted longer than most Hollywood marriages.”

1. The Identity Crisis

Since Tom Coughlin left, the Giants have been searching for their identity.

Under Coughlin they were tough, disciplined, and fearless.

Today?

Some weeks they look competitive.

Other weeks they look like a team still figuring out which locker room belongs to them.

“The Giants identity right now is basically ‘please let the season end before Thanksgiving.’”

Owner John Mara loves the Giants.

Nobody questions that.

But love doesn’t win championships.

Smart leadership does.

And for the last 15 years Giants fans have watched decision after decision push the franchise further away from the team that once beat Tom Brady on the biggest stage in football.

Once Tom Coughlin walked out the door…

The Giants didn’t just lose a coach.

They lost the culture that built champions.

And Giants fans have been waiting ever since for someone to bring it back. 🏈 🔥

My name is Errol Marks and I’d like to tell you why I believe I can be a major asset to your station. I’m from a small town in Long Island, NY and from a very young age I’ve always had a love for sports talk radio. Growing up, I would listen religiously to shows like Mike and the Mad Dog, Mike and Mike, and Imus in the Morning and studied what made those shows so great. I’ve made it my goal to be as influential as the hosts I grew up listening to, and with my knowledge of all major sports, enthusiastic and fearless personality, and my preparation skills, I know I can get to that level. This is an art and a medium that I’m passionate about and one that I feel can never be replaced.

What makes my story so unique goes beyond my 10+ years of experience in sports media. In addition to over ten years of creating and hosting sports talk radio shows, I created the World Wide Sports Radio Network - one of the first ever digital sports radio networks - in 2012. Since the network began, we have had some of the best content in digital sports media. We have six quality shows on our network covering all sports and sports betting. I’m currently hosting New York’s Sports Loud Mouth, and you can find that show and the rest of our great shows at https://worldwidesportsradio.com/.

Our network’s content and listenership has grown significantly year to year and, in the past year, we’ve achieved 3.6 million minutes listened on our audio stream, over 29k followers on tik tok, 500k viewed on YouTube, 1.7 million downloads on Apple Podcasts, and 906,917 plays on Spotify. While we are enjoying a continued increase in growth, I feel that we can take this to a new level and a new audience with your help.

My goal since the day I started is to become the greatest and most recognizable sports radio show host in the country. I can guarantee that nobody in this industry currently has my passion, personality or ability to shape the future of sports broadcasting and entertainment like I do. If given the opportunity, I hope to further share my story and many talents with you and your station.
