Ladies and gentlemen… Deshaun Watson is back in Cleveland!
And apparently the Cleveland Browns decided his welcome-home gift should be 54,000 people telling him they missed him… just not in the way he was hoping.
Watson walked onto the field for his first home game since tearing his Achilles in October 2024.
And the Cleveland fans greeted him with a beautiful rendition of:
“BOOOOOOOOO!”
Now Deshaun Watson says the boos were “disrespectful.”
DISRESPECTFUL?!
Deshaun…
YOU’RE THE QUARTERBACK OF THE CLEVELAND BROWNS!
These people have been booing quarterbacks since before some of these fans were born!
You could throw a touchdown pass in Cleveland and somebody in the upper deck would yell:
“YEAH, BUT YOU SUCK!”
That’s Cleveland!
But here’s the thing: Watson says this wasn’t about his performance.
And he’s absolutely right.
Because if Cleveland was booing him because he went 5-for-12 for 35 yards and an interception, I could understand that.
That stat line looked like somebody accidentally grabbed the controller during Madden.
THIRTY-FIVE YARDS?!
My mailman gets more yards walking up my driveway!
But Watson knows this is bigger than football.
This is personal.
This relationship between Watson and Cleveland has been broken for a LONG time.
The Browns traded THREE FIRST-ROUND PICKS for this man.
THREE!
They gave him a five-year, $230 MILLION fully guaranteed contract.
And what did Cleveland get?
Injuries.
Suspensions.
More injuries.
And enough quarterback drama to make “General Hospital” look like a 30-second commercial.
Watson hasn’t even come close to being the quarterback Cleveland thought they were buying.
And now he comes back to the stadium after missing an enormous amount of football and wonders why the fans aren’t standing there with balloons saying:
“WELCOME BACK, DESHAUN! HERE’S YOUR CAKE!”
NO!
They handed him the Cleveland welcome package:
A boo, another boo, and a complimentary third boo on the way out!
And then Watson brought up something that is impossible to ignore.
The last time he played in Cleveland, he tore his Achilles.
And while he was lying on the field injured, some Browns fans cheered.
Watson remembers that.
And honestly, I understand why that would bother him.
Because regardless of how you feel about Deshaun Watson, cheering when somebody suffers a serious injury is ugly.
That’s different.
You can hate the contract.
You can hate the quarterback.
You can hate the trade.
You can hate the entire situation.
But when somebody tears an Achilles and is being carted off the field?
That’s where you shut your mouth.
You don’t have to send him flowers.
Just don’t celebrate somebody getting hurt.
But here’s where Watson and Cleveland have a problem.
He can’t expect the relationship to magically reset because he’s finally healthy.
Because Cleveland didn’t spend $230 million on a guy to be a motivational speaker.
They bought a quarterback.
And so far, Cleveland has gotten more drama than touchdowns.
And now there’s another problem:
SHEDEUR SANDERS.
Yes!
Because while Watson was getting booed, Shedeur Sanders was out there looking like he wanted the job.
Sanders went 9-for-11 for 74 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
And Cleveland is getting ready to make a decision on its starting quarterback.
So imagine being Deshaun Watson.
You’re making $230 million.
You’re walking into your home stadium.
The fans boo you.
Then the rookie quarterback comes in and starts completing passes.
That’s not a quarterback competition.
That’s a reality show with shoulder pads.
And Browns coach Todd Monken basically gave Watson the simplest advice known to mankind:
PLAY GOOD FOOTBALL.
That’s it!
That’s the entire Browns offensive game plan!
No TED Talk.
No meditation.
No vision board.
No crystals.
JUST PLAY GOOD FOOTBALL!
Monken basically said:
“You don’t want to get booed? Stop giving people reasons to boo you.”
That’s cold.
That’s basically the NFL version of:
“Sir, please stop making me have to defend you.”
And Watson’s response afterward?
He joked that maybe he gets more love on the road than he does at home.
He said:
“Maybe it’s 17 away games then.”
DESHAUN…
THAT’S NOT A JOKE.
THAT’S A REQUEST FOR WITNESS PROTECTION!
At this point, Deshaun Watson doesn’t need a home-field advantage.
He needs a home-field apology.
Because Cleveland isn’t booing the quarterback they think he can become.
They’re booing the quarterback they believe they already paid for.
And that’s the problem.
The Browns gave Watson the keys to the franchise.
The fans expected a Ferrari.
Instead, they’ve spent four years watching the check-engine light come on.
And now Watson wants the fans to be respectful?
Earn it.
You don’t have to win everybody back overnight.
You don’t have to make Cleveland love you.
But if you want those boos to stop?
There is a very simple solution.
Throw touchdowns.
Win football games.
Stay healthy.
And for God’s sake…
PLEASE STOP MAKING CLEVELAND REGRET THAT $230 MILLION CHECK EVERY SUNDAY!
Because in Cleveland, they may forgive you.
They may forget.
But first…
YOU BETTER PLAY SOME DAMN FOOTBALL!
