Diogo Jota was born in the city of Porto in Portugal and played his youth football for Gondomar until the age of 17. Jota with his versatility, clinical finishing, and beautiful dribbling skills was constantly overlooked due to his stature, being one of the smallest on the team.

He was determined to never give up despite the challenges and it was in 2013 when he joined first division side Pacos de Ferreira. He was promoted to the first team for the 2014/15 season and during that season scored in the league making him the youngest player to score in the top division.

Let us not forget his brother, Andre Silva, who also passed away. Andre, 25, was in the youth academy of Porto, Pacos de Ferreira, and Boavista, before playing professionally with FC Penafiel in 2023. Andre’s career was much shorter-lived than his older brother’s as he had not made as many appearances as his brother, but the potential was evident.

My condolences go out to his wife, children, and parents who had to put him to rest, which is one of the hardest things to do in life. I do ask for all who come into contact with this to hug your loved ones and let them know how much you care, live every day like it is your last because it can be gone in an instant.
