There are comeback stories… and then there’s whatever this is.
So let me get this straight — Derek Carr spends a couple years away from football, probably enjoying life, grilling in the backyard, not getting sacked by 300-pound human refrigerators… and then wakes up one morning and says:
“Yeah… I miss getting hit.”
And who answers that call? Of course. The boy genius himself, Sean McVay, sitting in Los Angeles like a football scientist, probably watching film at 3AM like:
“Hmm… what if I bring back a quarterback who hasn’t played in years? That’ll confuse EVERYBODY.”
INCLUDING his own offensive line.
Let’s be honest — nobody just “casually” comes out of retirement unless one of three things happens:
- The love of the game comes back
- The money is ridiculous
- You saw the current quarterbacks and said, “Yeah… I can still do that.”
Carr probably hit all three like it’s a parlay.

But let’s not ignore the obvious connection here:
Davante Adams.
That’s not just chemistry — that’s “I know where you’re throwing it before you throw it” type chemistry. That’s the football version of finishing each other’s sentences. That’s “closed eyes, backyard Nevada, Fresno State vibes.”
McVay didn’t just bring in Carr. He brought in COMFORT.
And in the NFL? Comfort can either win you games… or get you fired.
Now here’s where it gets interesting.
The Los Angeles Rams are not rebuilding.
They’re not “figuring it out.”
They are in FULL “we better win right now or everybody’s in trouble” mode.
This is not a vibe. This is pressure.
You don’t make aggressive moves, spend money, and build a roster just to say,
“Let’s see what happens.”
NO. This is a “Super Bowl or awkward exit interviews” situation.
So bringing in Carr is either:
- A genius move
- Or something we laugh about in 6 months
There is no in-between.

Let’s give McVay his flowers — the man turned a lot of quarterbacks into functioning humans.
Carr stepping into that system could mean:
- Quick reads
- Play-action magic
- Less pressure to play hero ball
And if Adams is there? Oh boy…
That’s instant offense. That’s familiarity. That’s “we don’t need 6 weeks to figure this out.”
Also — Carr has always been BETTER than people give him credit for. He’s not elite… but he’s not trash either. He’s like that reliable car that never looks flashy but always starts.
Let’s not pretend this is all sunshine and California dreams.
Carr hasn’t played in YEARS.
Not weeks. Not months. YEARS.
Football speed is different. Timing is different. Getting hit is DEFINITELY different.
You can’t simulate Aaron Donald in practice — which, by the way…
If we’re bringing people back, can we call Aaron Donald too??
Like imagine that phone call:
“Hey Aaron… quick question… you still got 99 in you?”
Because if Carr is coming back, why not just run it all the way back? Bring everybody back. Call up the 2018 Rams while we’re at it.
Now here’s where I start squinting a little bit…
You’re telling me this team is spending BIG, making moves, and building this “win-now” roster…
And then saying:
“Yeah… our QB? He’s been on vacation since the last Marvel phase.”
That’s a gamble.
A BIG one.
Because in a must-win year, you don’t want questions.
You want answers.
Carr right now? He’s a question mark with a strong arm.
This move feels like when your friend says:
“Trust me bro, this is gonna work.”
And you KNOW it might… but you also KNOW you might be calling him in two weeks saying:
“Yeah… what were we thinking?”
If Carr hits?
McVay looks like a genius.
The Rams look dangerous.
And everybody pretends they believed in it all along.
If he doesn’t?
We are going to have CONTENT for DAYS.
This is either a comeback story…
Or a comedy.
And honestly?

What makes my story so unique goes beyond my 10+ years of experience in sports media. In addition to over ten years of creating and hosting sports talk radio shows, I created the World Wide Sports Radio Network - one of the first ever digital sports radio networks - in 2012. Since the network began, we have had some of the best content in digital sports media. We have six quality shows on our network covering all sports and sports betting. While we are enjoying a continued increase in growth, I feel that we can take this to a new level and a new audience with your help.
My goal since the day I started is to become the greatest and most recognizable sports radio show host in the country.
