Blue Billion Pound Bottle Jobs

With inflation in sports, we have seen some mammoth contracts like Shohei Ohtani with one over $700 million, Cristiano Ronaldo ($215┬ámillion for 2 years), and Jaylen Brown (5 years, $304 million) but for an entire team to be like that and not live up to even half the money, that’s a problem.

Chelsea FC, owned by Todd Boehly, has spent over ONE BILLION POUNDS to assemble a squad that in reality is not worth half of that. They were supposed to be on the up, to be contending, not for the title but higher up the league and they are only in 10th in the Premier League. “Scroll Down FC” has been the name people have given them over the season as they have only been in the top half for a few weeks.

Chelsea spending $1 billion and only making it to 10th from 10th is horrendous. Putting that into perspective, Liverpool who are challenging for the title have spent a whopping 807 million pounds since Jurgen Klopp took charge; NEARLY 10 YEARS ON.

Playing against Klopp’s kids in the Carabao Cup final earlier this year proved how bad they are even though this is a squad with much promise. Enzo Fernandez, Young Player of the Tournament in the 2022 World Cup, Moises Caicedo who was one of the best defensive midfielders in the league, and Mykhailo Mudryk who was dubbed the “Ukrainian Neymar” have not even reached the heights mentioned above to even show some sort of improvement.

It has been a failure from everyone, the ownership, the directors, the managers, the playing staff, everyone. The issue is the only way to solve this issue is with money to overhaul the squad. Chelsea has been a horror show to watch as even if they win 1 game, they have already lost/drawn 4 or 5 before then.

Well, I am 18 years old currently undergoing my Bachelors of Science in Media and communications. I'm currently in my first semester and I would like to be a sports analyst in the future. I am also from Jamaica. I would like to work at one of the biggest sports companies in the world (ESPN/SKY/BT) but everyone needs a start and I would love it if you were to give me that start.
