Becky Hammon really woke up Tuesday morning sounding like that one stubborn uncle at the barbecue who still thinks VHS tapes are making a comeback.
“If your best player is small, you’re not winning.”
Meanwhile Jalen Brunson is over here dragging the New York Knicks to the NBA Finals like a 6-foot-2 Italian pitbull from Planet Basketball. This man got double-teamed, trapped, hacked, elbowed, hit with every defensive scheme known to mankind — and still sent Cleveland home looking like they accidentally walked into a category 5 Knicks hurricane.
Now all of a sudden Becky talking about:
“Well… if he proves me wrong, he proves me wrong.”
NO NO NO. Don’t start moonwalking backwards now. Stand in the paint with your take like Rudy Gobert trying to guard Brunson with five fouls.
What does Becky Hammon know about stopping Jalen Brunson anyway? The man just swept the Cavaliers so badly Cleveland fans were checking Zillow listings in Oklahoma City by halftime.
And the Allen Iverson comparison?
I love AI. Legend. Hall of Famer. Cultural icon. But this ain’t 2001 anymore. The NBA changed. Steph Curry changed basketball so much every kid under 14 now shoots from the parking lot with zero shame and terrible mechanics.
Apparently Becky missed the last decade where smaller guards have been destroying souls nightly:

At this point Brunson isn’t “small.”
He’s just built like a fire hydrant with footwork from a kung fu movie.
And honestly the funniest part is Knicks fans took Becky’s comments personally. You know New York fans. They hold grudges longer than the DMV line at 8 AM.
Now every Brunson bucket feels like revenge.
Every crossover is basically:
“REMEMBER WHAT YOU SAID ON ESPN, BECKY?!”
And let’s be real here — if Brunson wins a championship, Knicks fans are going to replay that clip forever. FOREVER. That audio is getting played at weddings, baptisms, subway stations, funerals, probably outside Madison Square Garden on loop next to the guy selling fake playoff T-shirts.
The truth is this:
Basketball ain’t about height anymore. It’s about heart, toughness, IQ, and whether your superstar turns into a psychopath in crunch time.
Brunson checks every box.
The dude plays like somebody insulted his family before tip-off.
And now the Knicks are four wins away from a title while Becky Hammon sitting there looking like somebody accidentally hit “reply all” on a terrible take from two years ago.
Jalen Brunson heard the noise.
And now the entire NBA hearing him back.

What makes my story so unique goes beyond my 10+ years of experience in sports media. In addition to over ten years of creating and hosting sports talk radio shows, I created the World Wide Sports Radio Network - one of the first ever digital sports radio networks - in 2012. Since the network began, we have had some of the best content in digital sports media. We have six quality shows on our network covering all sports and sports betting. What is she talking about? The Spurs won the 1999 chip with Avery Johnson the starting PG @ 5’10”, the shortest PG ever to win the chip. Coincidentally they beat the Knicks with Rick Brunson on the roster.
I would argue that Brunson is one of the smartest PGs ever in the league. What he lacks in height, speed and athleticism he uses those smarts to figure it out. And the Knicks have Grit, will, focus, coaching, talent and depth. So whoever they play, bring it on, they have to play the game.
