I’m from a small town in Long Island. Growing up I was a very competitive and very into sports. I followed teams like the Yankees, Jets, Knicks and the Islanders. I always had a love for sports and my whole life I had dreams to become a professional athlete. This was however short lived due to a knee injury. After many years of trying to figure out of what I wanted to do with my career, I found my true passion for radio. After college, I took part in a mentoringship at CBS Sports Radio where I also had the opportunity to help produce with my mentor Dan Schwartzman host of “Going Deep” on NBC Sports Radio.

The man behind the mic, a Long Island native who’s fun is talking about sports with fellow fans & listeners. A dream turning into reality on Sports On The Go1.

Listening to the radio all the time as a kid, I fell in love with the
profession right away and couldn’t believe people were paid to talk
sports. I’ve been chasing this dream ever since. Working behind the
scenes at both CBS Sports Radio and SiriusXM have prepared me for an
opportunity like this to live out my dream and have people listen to
what I have to say.

George Whitbread may have Cerebral Palsy, but he does not let it slow him down in achieving his goals. George is a St. John’s University student studying journalism as an aspiring sports broadcaster. The Oceanside New York native began chasing his broadcasting dream back in high school when he did play-by-play and public address announcing for his school’s football and boy’s and girl’s lacrosse teams. At St. John’s, George is an active member in the school’s radio station, WSJU. With WSJU, George has two sports radio shows and frequently does play-by-play or color commentary for St. John’s men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.

George has been working for the New York Mets since 2016 as a member of the promotions staff. Last summer, George increased his role in the Mets organization when he took on a second job as a tour guide. It is George’s true love for the Mets and baseball that makes him love what he does. George also is an avid football and hockey fan, where he cheers for the Giants and Rangers. It is George’s dream to one day end up in a broadcast booth, but the Mets, Giants, or Rangers booth would be an extra special place to call home.
